pusher and tractor props
hi all. i need pusher and tractor propellers of size around 5.5x2.5. is there any manuacture who produces theem both.
i found a suitable prop for my application by APC (APC 5.5x2.5) i went to the APC site but there's no info on whether there props are pusher or tractor. can some one help with this. |
RE: pusher and tractor props
usually a pusher prop will have a p after the size so these are probably tractor props.

RE: pusher and tractor props
Are you using these on an electric project? If that is the case, you can mount a tractor prop on the shaft backwards and run the motor in the reverse direction.

RE: pusher and tractor props
yes it is an electric project. thanx for the info. some other ppl told me the same. but wud that have the same thrust as the props that are not backward given that the motor and the battery is the same.

RE: pusher and tractor props
Simply turning the prop in the reverse direction will make it push instead of pull, but the thrust will be substantially lower. That is because props have cambered airfoils. It's like flying an airplane with a flat-bottom wing upside down, it works, but not as well as right side up. By mounting the prop backward and turning it in the reverse direction, the airfoil shape is correct for the thrust direction.
Gas engines are not easily reversed so they need special pusher props that have a left hand pitch instead of a right hand pitch. The only difference between pusher and tractor is the motor is in front of the prop instead of behind it. It shouldn't affect thrust much. Pushers tend to be a lot noisier than tractors because tractor props get clean un-disturbed air and pushers get the wake of the stuff that is in front of them. |
