New to RC
Like many others, I myself have taken the plunge into the RC world. I have been building models for many years. I flew control line for several years off and on. I have been wanting to get into RC for a long, long time and now have the opportunity to get started. I have browsed this site for the last few years and have gotten a lot of useful information from this site. I have read several discussions on the types of radio's, trainers, etc. to get started on. Lots of choices, and kind of over whelmed on what to chose. So I decided to go with the SIG LT-40 kit, with a futaba 6 channel, and a super tiger .40 engine. Thought about going with the ARF models, but I like to build. So this will be my winter project this year. I hope the veterans here don't mind me asking the same questions they have been asked over and over by other beginners. But everyone was a beginner once. So hi to everyone and thanks for having me in this new RC adventure.

RE: New to RC
Ouflyer,
Welcome to RC Universe and the great hobby of Radio Control flying. You've chosen a great plane to start with, the LT-40 is probably one of the best trainers on the market today. I've done a build thread on the LT-40, you might check it out to give you some help in building your plane. You can find it here: [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3439708/tm.htm]Pay It Forward build thread!! LT-40 build.[/link] Don't worry about asking too many questions, that's what the Beginner's thread is here for. Just remember, the only dumb question is the one that doesn't get asked. So please, ask anything you have a question about. Ken |
RE: New to RC
Thanks RCKen
Yes I have read your thread on the LT-40 build. That is one of the main reasons for going with this kit. I must say, you have given us beginners a lot of useful information from your posts. I for one thank you for the time and effort you have put forth in these threads. |
RE: New to RC
ouflyer - welcome to flying RC. I'm sure you will enjoy it as much as we do. Don't hesitate to bring us your dumb questions as I assure you we have plenty of dumb answers to give in response. [sm=bananahead.gif] On a more serious note, we're here to help just like Ken said and happy to do it. :)

RE: New to RC
Thanks bruce88123, I know I'll a ton of questions later on.

ouflyer - one word of caution - be very careful not to disclose any pet nicknames you may have to Bruce, in particular. [X(]
On a more serious note, welcome to the hobby. I started at age 12, 29 years ago and it's been a part of my life ever since! Bob |

RE: New to RC
ouflyer,
Have you joined a club yet? I'm local in Wichita and belong to the Wichita Radio Control Club (WRCC). We fly at Chapin field between the Arkansas River and drive-in theater on the east side of Hydraulic. I learned long ago it never hurts to have a second set of eyes to look over your first RC build. When I finish some preventative maintenance on a couple of planes I can give you an intro flight at our field if you'd like. Hogflyer |
RE: New to RC
hogflyer, no I haven't joined yet. I live in Derby and have talked with an individual who is in the Derby club. I am familar with the field you mentioned, so I'm very close. I would like to visit at least a few clubs and get a feel of the atmosphere. I have read a lot of your posts and noticed you lived in Wichita. That would be great to get with you. Let me know when you will be at Chapin and I'll be sure to meet you. It's always best to have an extra set of eyes and know how, to help those who are new to this sport out. I appreciate the invite. I've always loved building models, and I can always use advice.
THANKS!!!! |
RE: New to RC
Thanks for the the welcome "Muffy"....I mean Kaos1964, I'll be sure to keep those pet names under wraps from bruce88123. Sorry about that...I'm a bit of a clown myself.

ORIGINAL: ouflyer I'm a bit of a clown myself. :D Welcome to RCU ouflyer! |
RE: New to RC
In all fairness to KAOS1964, that isn't "exactly" the nickname he gave us, but close. I took a little "leeway" with it. I'm going to let it go from here on though as I've had enough fun with it/him over it.:) I learned long ago not to put nicknames or photos on RCU where RCKen or MinnFlyer can get at them with Photoshop. So be warned on that.

Thanks for the welcome MinnFlyer. I would have never have thought you and RCKen would do such things with photos. So if I were to post a photo of my finished model, I would run the risk of one of one of you two guys "accidently on purpose", retouching the photo to show that I mounted the engine on the tail or something like that? That would get me some model building points. |

Moral of the story, "Personal pictures are fair game!!!!!" ;)
Just kidding of course. We just like to have some fun around here at times!!!! :D:D Ken |
RE: New to RC
:)
Ha Ha! Looks like all of us will get along juuust fine. Minn, you sure do have a uncanny resemblance of the man that lives in the North Pole. RCKen, you would'nt happen to know if RCU is taking any applications for "Captian" for the company yacht do you? I've done a little yachting myself back in the day. Fond memories on Tenkiller.....pull the rope and steer. |
RE: New to RC
I think trailering the yacht to Kansas would be too expensive.
|
RE: New to RC
But we can put it in Lake Afton, right next to the flying strip! Just because the draft is deeper than the lake shouldn't be much of an issue. :D

ORIGINAL: RCKen No way!!!!!!! We would never deface the picture of an airplane!! http://www.minnartist.net/RCU/grafx/US%2B%2B%2B.jpg ORIGINAL: RCKen Come on, we have some values and morals!! Now excuse me, I have to get down to the local High School. The girls are running track today. |

RE: New to RC
Excellent idea hogflyer. Don't need a trailer........we could sail her up the Arkansa river!!! Might have to put a little nitro in the fuel tanks to get her thru the shallow parts.
MinnFlyer, you can go ahead and touch up any of my model photos, if you make them look that good. I kinda like the womens beach volleyball myself. Amazing how they cover so much area. |
RE: New to RC
I prefer the way the UN cover so much area :D
