Loose covering under decal

Is it posible to tighten loose covering that is under a decal (ARF sticker things) without ruining the decal? Will it melt, or smear the decal if I use my covering iron?

Thanks,

LT-40

Any chance you could post a picture of the problem area? I would think the iron would loosen and distort the decal as I use similar heat to remove decals from vehicles.

I just got through trying this on my H-9 P-40 everywhere else but where the sticker was shrunk down fine the sticker area did not really get affected either way but I was also careful not to get the sticker to hot either

Hey Hi

H9 uses the same heatshrinking matterial for the decals as well....So that is the reason that you didn't have any problem....

Not true. I did the RCU review on the Hanger 9 P-40 and there are 2 different types of "decals" on this plane. The ones that come pre-installed on the plane are made out of Ultracoat, but there is also a seperate sheet of "stickers" that come with the plane and are applied by the modeler. These are made out of a clear plastic and will not shrink with the covering material. If it's these decals you are having problems with you will need to remove them in order to tighten the covering underneath.

exactly the stickers are heavy and will melt if too much heat is applied you have to be careful.
for your bubbles just start slow with a heat gun to shrink the covering down then if there is any air trapped in the pocket use a fine needle to poke a small hole to let the air escape allot of the time you don't even need to do that.
just don't be too quick to iron down the covering you will fold the covering onto it's self then your stuck with a vein you will have a hard time getting out.
if you don't have a heat gun take a old iron and a T-shirt for a pad it works well also just go slow.

Yeap RC Ken you are right 100% about the extra decals...I meant the already stuck ones (you know the insignia etc) I didn't include the "nose art" decals..... thanks for the correction.
