What Fuel To Use?
Being new to this nitro stuff I'm trying to figure out the difference between Omega 15% by Morgan Fuels (Pink in color) and the Cool Power fuel 15% by Morgan fuels (Green in color). I'm running Tower Hobbies 15% at the present time in a O.S. Max .40LA engine. The LHS said that the Cool Power (green) would be find but I'm not sure know that I went and brought the stuff.
Like always, you guys have been very helpfull and I appreciate your help as I try to learn this great hobby[8D] Thanks Chopper man |
RE: What Fuel To Use?
The only difference between those two fuels it the lubricants that are mixed in the fuel. The pink Omega uses Castor oil and the green Cool Power uses synthetic lubrication. That's the difference, plain and simple. I myself use nothing but the 15% Cool Power in everything I fly and have no problems at all.
Hope this helps Ken |
RE: What Fuel To Use?
Thanks! Being a rookie at this stuff just makes me a little nerves about changing things before I know for sure. I should have asked the question before I purchased the Cool Power.
Thanks again. chopper man |
RE: What Fuel To Use?
Being addicted to the smell of burnt castor, I use the pink stuff and also have no problems. Well, at least no problems with my engines! [sm=bananahead.gif]
Bottom line, both work well... |

RE: What Fuel To Use?
One other thought. Can you mix two different brands together if the same nitro content?

RE: What Fuel To Use?
I hope so. LHS sometimes has 15% S&W, sometimes has 15% Omega. I have a metal can on my field box that I top off with whichever of those is next in line in my cellar fuel dump. I adjust my high-end needle valve every trip to the airfield, but seldom touch the low idle so I assume they are similar enough.

RE: What Fuel To Use?
The pink Omega actually uses a blend of synthetic and castor. It actually is the best of both worlds.
Fuel with all castor for the lubricant isn't needed nowadays which is good, because none of the LHSs around here sell any fuel that's all castor lube. So......... that said......... if you hear any bad stories about castor ignore them. You probably won't find a fuel that has all castor lube, and the percentage in the blends with it are only going to give you the good, not the bad. My pink Omega is easy to clean off. There seems to be just enough castor in it's blend to provide the extra protection that synthetic can't give but castor provides. And there isn't so much that it makes the airplane a sticky mess. Be glad you don't have to experience what it was like to wipe off a plane that'd been buring Fox Superfuel with it's 29% castor. |
RE: What Fuel To Use?
Can you mix two different brands together if the same nitro content? And you can mix different nitro contents. Don't make no diffunce a tall. |
RE: What Fuel To Use?
There really is minimal difference between the two, but being that you are a beginner, I would definitely suggest Omega (the pink stuff). That is what I use. The castor oil in this mix makes your engine more resilient to tuning mistakes, like an over-lean run. If you're very careful, and know exactly what you are doing, Cool Power should be fine.

Chopper man,
I use the 10% PINK...I started with the Cool Power green but switched because: 1) my friends recommended it. 2) the castor oil does wonders on my legs at the taxi line when I run the engine up. and finally... 3) it's PINK...it coordinates with my floral field box....what else do you expect from a Flygirl!!!!!:) Bev |

ORIGINAL: chopper man One other thought. Can you mix two different brands together if the same nitro content? chopper man I have 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, an sometimes 40% in the barn. When a few gallons used for specialties get low, there are times I mix all the low containers and sport fly the 25 --60 engines with whatever it produces. [X(] Now I use fuel with some castor oil, except I may use an all-synthetic for some balky 4-strokes, however let me say that I don't do much 4-stroke time. I have found that 5% nitro with 16% oil, castor-synthetic 20-80 blend, does very well here in SE TX even at those near 100* days with 95% humidity, for .40-.75 engines. Those great little LA engines need a tad bit more oil so I up to the 18% oil. Below .40 more oil needed as they get smaller. I run .049 engines with grand kids CL in my back yard. 10% nitro with 23% castor oil runs just great in .049s yet so many think that 20-30% nitro is needed. So off the tangent and back to earth, glow fuel is glow fuel and most of the major brands are very good. I have just preferred Wild Cat since its inception. |
