RE: Fueling problem

Are you shutting the throttle all the way down before fueling the plane?? If the carb is even a little bit open when you fuel the plane the fuel will be forced into the engine and flood it exactly as you described.

RE: Fueling problem

Ken, if your reply is to me lol no the carb floods with a check valve while running. I have never been able to get an engine to run correctly with a check valve in muffler pressure (vent) line thats why i responded to Minns post. I had endless problems tuning etc with the check valve, of course there were no issues when i took it out. I don't know why bruce's engines run fine with a check valve.

I've used fueling valves for years and yes they do fail after a certain amount of time, just buy a DuBro fueling valve so you can rebuild them with the repair kit and they are as good as new.

RE: Fueling problem

Thanks Bruce. Of all the planes I have had over the years I only had one where the engine was completely cowled in and on that one I had a removable hatch over the tank and lines making fueling a no problem endeavor.

I would like to see your setup on Harold's old plane. Seems like the last time I was down at your field you were having some trouble with it but you had just acquired the plane and hadn't worked out the bugs. I do think I will try the long pressure line and the brass tubing split - long enough where I can get to it easily. I'll fill through the 3rd line. This will be simple if I can get it to work easily.

As a side note, I'm not toohappy with the size tank - 8 oz. - for a OS46 AX but I don't fly a long time anyway. It just looks wimpy!

Hope all is well with you and the guys at the field.

Phil
