taking off
 

ok 2 videos of the planes flying and the people held the plan and threw it when they started if off. I think that one of the coolest parts of flying it would be taking off and landing, not just landing it so if falls into the grass liek I saw though, I want it to land and roll, like flying a real plane. So are there planes that you keep on the ground during take off and it goes by itself? thanks for help.

Hello again!

By and large most RC planes take off and land on wheels just like full scale aircraft. By the way, you may find some resistance to the use of the phrase "real plane." Miniature aircraft are subject to the same laws of physics as full size ones, so they are technically "real," just not full scale. :) It's probably safe to say your first plane will take off and land like full scale. Anyway, hand launching is common, but not usually appropriate for someone just beginning.

well I"m glad that my first plane will most likely be able to lift off from teh ground, cause that's waht I want to do.

The planes you spoke of were undoubtedly small electrics which don't like to carry the extra weight of undercarriage. They hand launch and then "FLOP" into the grass. REAL model aircraft have IMO internal combustion motors.:D

I fly 1/2A planes (.049) and as a rule we dont use any landing gear because the wheels are too small for grass fields for take off and they just catch the grass and flip over on landing much like most parkflyers do ..my electrics I can fly and land on the blacktop at the school so I leave them on.....pretty much any thing from .15 up will take off and land ok..although I often have someone hand launch my .25 and .40 trainers for fun....and I usually fly out of fuel and deadstick in[&:]...Rog

hand launch often requires a bit more attention & skill than some give it. with some models it is a poor choice due to the speed required . there is just no way you can run fast enough with a heavy bird ( unless it is grossly overpowered) to get it off safely. the lighter trainers & such certainly can & a head wind helps .
