Hi Chris,

If you live down in the south gippsland area, the best club to join most probably is P&DARCS which i currently fly at in cardinia, we own our own land, so therefore club stays and we dont get booted off like some clubs that rent the land, and we have good facilitys including 2 large water tanks, air-conditioned club house with kitchen which many events are held here with no worries for catering. And there are many kind and good flying instructors that are always willing to help new people to the hobby out, including the Vmaa Cheif Flying Instructor. a little hint for you aswell, i may get flamed for saying this, but when searching round hobby shops... please.. please, try your hardest to stay away from THE HOBBY MAN in dandenong, as they charge anywhere from $50 more than other shops for planes. my name for the is THE RIP-OFF MAN, and thats no joke intended, ohh well good luck finding a club and have fun enjoying the hobby :D

Thanks Dav0012
If I was around that area I would definitely come to pay a visit but I live very close to the city, in Docklands (Yes I am living in a high rise apartment and yes i have started the plane on my balcony ;) ). There's a club in Doncaster that I'm going to check out.

Also thanks for the advice about 'the hobby man', I wont be going there! :) I actually bought the plane from 'The Hobby Place' on Lonsdale Street. I probably wouldn't go back there, but I've bought a few accessories from Hearns Hobbies on Flinders street which seems great. Very friendly and helpful staff there.

7) Using ailerons instead of rudder to make course corrections when landing.
Why is it best to use rudder for this? I get what you are saying but I'm just wondering what the reason is.

When using the simulator I've been using ailerons for course corrections when landing and haven't been using the rudder at all. Since you said this I've tried using the rudder but it seems easier with the ailerons as they are on the opposite stick to the elevator. When trying to control rudder and elevator at the same time with the same stick it seems harder, but if its the right way then I should learn.

Is it OK to continue the way I'm doing it using the ailerons to make course corrections or is it a bad habit that I should try and break?

keep trying to use the rudder as well as for if you get a dead stick and you are to low to the ground you can flat turn your plane by using rudder and opisote alerons so you don't side slip into the ground. plus when you are flying if you use the two together makes your turns alot better, you don't see the full size planes just use alerons

RE: Radio Controller Mode

Mode One,

Read my post again. Then read chris750 thread starter post.

chris750 asked for opinions on mode 1 vs mode 2. I gave him mine, but did not say it was a must, just personal preference. I may be one of very few to have flown planes for a few years using Mode 1 now a couple of years flying Mode 2.
As Ive said before in other posts, both have there advantages.

I also said I prefer Mode 2 for heli. Others learnt Mode 1 for Helis and are happy with it.

But chris750 is just starting out and can easily change now if he wishes, which is no doubt why he is asking for opinions on each Mode.

chris750 Another factor that may sway your opinion is if everyone else is flying Mode 1 and you stick with Mode 1, you will be able to fly each others planes if you wish.
Learning Mode 2 while most others are Mode 1 would require a few changes to servo plugs in the Rx, then all the computer programming will be incorrect with someone elses Tx.
You could always check out your local club and see what Mode the fly.

Using rudder only has been discussed alot on this forum. Just remember not everyones opinion is the absolute truth. Including my opinion.

Keep doing what you are doing, using ailerons to make adjustments on finals is correct, however to be 100% correct it should be co-ordinated with rudder.
Using rudder alone is incorrect.

Don't live there obviously but understand most are on Mode 1 in the UK. Would be a minor change IMO to get used to. No changes to the TX and a little re-plugging ar the RX.
