Steerable nose gear
I may be having a brain fart here but for the life of me I cannot remember how to bend and install a steerable nose gear. I would apreciate if someone could clear this up for me. A picture or diagram would be great. I know it's probably really simple but if you could help me out I would really appricate it. Thanks.

RE: Steerable nose gear
Bend and install?
What kit or ARF are you working with? The nose gear usually comes pre-bent and ready to install by mounting the hardware to the firewall, connecting the linkage to the torque arm, pushing in the nosegear wire through the hardware and tightening the set screw that holds the wire rod in the firewall hardware. I am not sure I understand what you mean by bend and install. Sorry for that. DS. |
RE: Steerable nose gear
I think I understand what you are asking...you have a nose gear that is not pre-bent. I just bend them in a vice and if needed apply a little heat. You could use this axle from tower if you do not want to bend the axle. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...p?&I=LXK182&P= Hope this helps.

Don't know if they all work the same... but heres how mine work. Two brackets hold the axel to the firewall. The control horn goes on the axel between the brackets.

Nice drawing, but you're going to have a bear of a time making a right turn.

RE: Steerable nose gear
ok thanks guys, I got it, thanks for clearing it up. I think I may have been high off fumes from CA. My brain just wouldn't work there for awhile. Maybe I'll put a fan in my workshop to get rid of the fumes. (maybe not;))

While CA fumes may make you're progress slower they DO prevent boredom as well :D

Believe me, I have committed much worse to wood and/or metal. Cut of an inch and it's still too short! [:@] |

I'm just glad I'm not the only one!
