BASIC FLAPS
I tried to post this last night, but it won't show up, so if I did double post I'm sorry!
I have a Futaba 9C and want to set up basic flaps. I have the ailerons Y'ed into channel 1 and the flaps Y'ed into channel 6. I want to put the flaps on the three position switch G (I think). Pos 1: flying. Pos 2: 10 degrees for takeoff. Pos 3: 40 degrees for landing. Thanks, Davis PS: I sent an e-mail to Futaba with the same question and up to now, three days, no response. Very dissapointing. |
RE: BASIC FLAPS
I'm not too familiar with Futaba, but a "Y" harness might make one flap go up and the other down.....unless you connect your pushrods on different sides of the servo......
PS where is AZ do you live? |
RE: BASIC FLAPS
Oops, with the Y harness flaps, you want the horns on the same sides. Ailerons are on the opposite sides.
If this is your first try with flaps, practice the slow 40 deg landing settings at high altitude. If you were to abort full flap landing and gun it for another pass, the plane will dive down first then pick up altitude. At 3 to 5 feet, you won't have much time to react. |
RE: BASIC FLAPS
Right you are! I found that out tonight. The plane is a Hanger 9 P-51 that someone else totalled. It is mostly rebuilt and I am working on the wing now. I will have to rethink the Y!
So...How do I set up the radio? |
RE: BASIC FLAPS
I live in Mesa and fly at the AMA field.

RE: BASIC FLAPS
Using a 9C, I'm not sure why you are using a Y-harness on your ailerons. If you hook one side to channel 1, the other to channel 5 and the flaps to channel 6 it should all work fine. Also, by hooking up the ailerons to separate channels, you stand less chance of loosing the plane to a wiring failure since the servos will be isolated electrically. You will also still have channels 7, 8 and 9 for retracts, bomb/drop tank release and lighting if you decide to install those systems.

RE: BASIC FLAPS
Channel six defaults to the VR1. How do I get 6 to the G switch and set the percentages. I can get the switch moved, but can't figure a way to set the three percetnages for flying, takeoff and landing. I don't to use the slide and guess where I amat while flying.
Thanks, Davis |
RE: BASIC FLAPS
Well...I guess I will answer my own question. This is with a Y harness on the flaps. You have to reverse the servo position or use a servo reverser. Assign switch G to channel 6 in SW Select. Go to PMix 1 and assign Master to Offset. Slave to Flap. Set rate at 15%, this is the takeoff rate. Remember that the position of switch may show as "off." That os what you want at up and down (not center) You do NOT want the mix to be at INH (inhibited), link off, Position:center. This gives you 15% flaps on G at the center position. Takeoff...
Then you do the same thing on PMix2 but set the rate to 40% (landing). Some of this info is on the manual in the premix pages, but it appears that there are many ways to get what you want, you have to experiment or ask someone that is really familiar with the radio that you use! Davis |
RE: BASIC FLAPS
Did you ask the same thing on RCGroups? I left a reply for that very question a day or two ago over there that you dont need a bunch of pre mixes for.
