Recommendation on good 2nd plane
Hi,
I'm training now with a great instructor using the club's trainer. What do you all recommend as a 2nd plane (once I've gotten my take-offs and landings down pat with the trainer). I have an OS .46 FX and complete radio and servos already. Some planes I have been considering... Hangar 9 PTS (as an ARF - just the plane) http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=HAN2845 Goldberg Tiger 2 ARF http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXH755 SIG Four Star 40 ARF http://www.sigmfg.com/cgi-bin/dpsmar...FV4.html?E+Sig The Hangar 9 is the most interesting to me because at least looks scale - the other two are not as "cool" looking. Please offer any recommendations / advise you see fit. Thanks in advance. - Rob |

Any of those planes will make excellent second planes. If you like the P-51 then by all means get it, you won't be disappointed with it.

Robert, all 3 planes are very good looking, and I can comment on the flight performance of the 4* and the tiger. both planes are very gentle and esy to handle, but with the high rates on they can also be very aerobatic. A .46 would be great for either the 4* or the tiger.
I fly my tigerII on a .40 and it is a quick plane with great manueverability and can pull a respectable vertical line. Whichever you go for good luck and keep us posted |

Robert,
I went from the SIG LT-40 to a Hangar 9 Pulse. The Pulse is a great plane - I have a TT .46 Pro on it and it is just a dream to fly. Everyone at our club has had very positive comments about the Pulse. Take a look at it and you won't be disappointed. |

They all look good, lots of nice 'second-planes' out there for that engine. I've heard good stories about the fourstar. The Kyosho Calmato Sports might also be a nice plane to look at, it's basically designed for the .46:
http://www.hobbystar.de/catalog/images/KYO11251gelb.jpg If you like pattern flying and are capable with the trainer, you might want to try a pattern airplane, like the Freestyle Rush http://shop.lindinger.at/images/M54056.jpg the Protech Tojeiro http://www.alshobbies.com/shop/stock...ch_tojerio.jpg Kyosho Oxalys http://www.hobbystar.de/catalog/images/KYO10853.jpg .. and so on. Note that these will fly nice with the 46, but not unlimited (the rush might). A tuned pipe could fix this, but isn't needed when you just start flying it as 2nd plane. F3A planes basically shouldn't be mean; ie. no weird (tip)stalls and so on. They do however not posess any self-righting capabilities, or at least, they shouldn't. |

If the Mustang PTS is the plane you really like, there's certainly no reason not to get one.
I have a Tiger 2 and it's an absolutely wonderful airplane to fly. Very stable but also very aerobatic. You can take to the skies and perform all kinds of aerobatics, then pull around into your landing pattern and glide down as gently as if you were still flying your trainer. Some other airframes you might consider that haven't been mentioned yet include the Seagull Models Spacewalker II .40 ARF, the Seagull Models PC-9 .40 ARF, and the Phoenix Models Dolphin .40 ARF: http://www.advantagehobby.com/images/P/SEA2050-250.jpg http://www.advantagehobby.com/images/P/SEA1050-250.jpg http://www2.gpmd.com/image/p/pmma0250.jpg There are a lot of great "second" planes out there. These are just some of the low wing choices out there, we haven't even talked about various "stik" models or Decathalon ARFs. |

Hanger-9 Ultra Stick 40 ugly, but you can learn alot with this plane. I think its a good second plane.

BTE built Venture60 is almost Identical to the Sig 4 Star because it's built by the same designer, Mr. Thorpe. He has just corrected several small issues from the four star and made the Venture 60. Read about it here.
