Please recommend some prop sizes
 

Reading some posts on prop sizes got me thinking.
Engine: Leo (like Model Engine Company of America) .46
I have this on 2 planes, but use the same prop (10x6) on both planes. 1 is a p-51 and the other is a trainer. Sounds like I need to increase the pitch on the p-51 to get more speed out of it (It's slower then I like but jumps into the air like I want) and leave the trainer alone (It behaves exactly like I want). Can anyone recommend some good prop sizes to try on the p-51? I was thinking 10x7...
I also have a polecat (basically a standard 3d plane) with a Thunder tiger 42 pushing a 10x6 prop. Can anyone recommend a good prop for hovering?

for hovering i can recomend 11x6 or 11x5.

for speed, use 10x8 or 10x7


I always use 11x7 on my irvine 46 trainer. :)

11-4 would be a great pulling prop. the p 51 should benifit from a 10-8

For hovering I like the MA 12x4 on a 45-50 size motor. I run APC or Zinger on everything else. But for some reason the MA 12x4 is really good 3D prop.

They are right about prop size a 10-6 through 10-8 should give you some really good pull. try to avoid zingers or at least sand down their L.E. you can gain a lot of rpms this way. If you have ever noticed the zingers have an unsually blunt L.E. but wood is much better as far a flexing of the prop goes.

One of the best hovering props for .46 to .50 sized engines is the APC 12.25X3.75 Wide blade. I ran one on a majic with an OS .40 FP and a shorty pipe. With mini high torque servos the plane weighed 3.5 pounds and flew great with such low wing loading.

come on, 12" is way too big for a 46 engine...

The crulest thing you can to to an engine is to fit it with a too large prop.

id rather have great unlimited performance for 2 years and have the engine burn out, rather than have ok performance and let it last an .46 is like $120 although i probably would have gone four stroke in the first place and not worry about it just my opinion
