another question
 

Another question.
Ive been wondering something.On here and in the instruction manual for my super cub and even my storm launcher , it says to always Turn the transmitter on first before hooking up the battery or turning on the power switch.
Ive been doing this because,well .. it says to do so, but I dont know why.

So that is my question. What is the importance of doing this ?

the reason is if someone else is on the same channel channel as you at the field, your able to shoot that person's plane down before anyone notices and watch it crash. just kidding. it dosent matter everyone has their way of doing things.

Actually, it does matter very much so. The reason is because the receiver and servos need a signal to lock onto when they are turned on. If you turn on the receiver first it's possible (and actually more than likely) for stray signals, or the lack of a signal, to drive the servos past their limits and actually physically damage the servos. Also driving servos past thier limit could also damage the plane by moving the control surfaces farther than they are designed to do. The instruction manuals are absolutely correct, turn the transmitter on first and then turn it off last.

i always wondered myself why that was. i always turn my plane on first for some reason. i guess its just habit. i will turn my transmitter on first from now on. thanks

thanks for the input, Ive been doing this since I started not too long ago but was wondering why. My friend got his first plane the other day and I told him that he had to turn his transmitter on first, and when he asked why all I could say was "I dont know,just do it.." LOL

At least now I know why,thanks again.[8D]

Also, if turning on the RX first on an electric plane the throttle might run to full power before you want it to. VERY dangerous condition.

Another reason for turning the radio on first - if you start the plane with the transmitter off, the engine may be at full throttle. Without the radio on the plane will take off. I saw this happen at my field once. The guy was in front of it, started it, was holding it down and grabbed the radio and stepped aside to throttle down for taxiing. However, the plane took off before he realized what the problem was! When he finially figured it out and turned the radio on the plane went crazy. Probably like Ken said - the servos then tried to center themselves. If I remember, he had to turn the power off then back on to get control.. Very scary...

RCKen is right, and I'll echo what he said. If the TX is turned off and the RX is turned on first, it may respond to spurious radio signals, metal-to-metal interference, or EMF interference. This may cause the servos to drive to their linits, possibly damaging the plane.

Ive been turning the transmitter on first,just didnt know why exactly. Now I do. Thanks for all the info. Ive learned alot since I found this place. You just will never know the headaches you guys have saved me from having since Ive been reading all the posts here that my mind can handle in the last month lol.
