First Plane - Hobbico

Hi...I am brand new to this. I just ordered a Superstar EP w/ Ailerons & Futaba 4EXA. After looking around the forum everyone seems to find the need to upgrade the superstar to brushless/lipo/and esc. + $$$.... Should I just get the Electristar instead as my fist plane? From what ive read...ppl/reviews seem to be happy with this plane as far as performance and power. Also the flight time on the Superstar seems to be VERY low at about 5 minutes or so. Reviews rate the electrstar at 13minutes. What do you guys think is better for a newbie? I would like to have something that I can grow with without having to make too many changes. Any help would be appreciated.

The electristar is a fine plane but big and maybe a little much for first plane. Maybe a 3 ch supercub to start if you have never flown.

I am sorry but what about the Electristar would make it too much for a first plane?
From what I can see it looks like a great first plane.
I do recommend joining a local club and get proper training on how to fly it.

With an instructor it will be a great electric trainer.

If you don't mind parting with the cash, the Electristar looks like a very solid trainer package. Keep in mind, however, that you will need to order a pair of 3000Mah NiMh batteries and a suitable charger in addition to the Electristar Select RTF package in order to be able to fly. If you're afraid of castor oil, this is a pretty impressive package.

Not having flown the ElectraStar, but experienced with both glow and electrics over the past 15 years I feel if you want to fly at a AMA field with a flight instructor that the instructor will enjoy teaching you how to fly using the ElectraStar. It has 'enough' size and power to be welcomed by the flyers and from the review of R/C Reports (my favorite mag) if it is 'still' the best 40 sized trainer/sport flyer in September when I turn 60.

I'm a sport flyer of both electric and glow and seeing the ElectraStar has a take down wing it will fit in my Toyota Echo I'm looking toward having it (with 3 flight pacs) this September.

Sure, glow is alot cheaper, more powerful, longer flying, but I also like mowing the lawn with an electric mower. My preference, and I fly alot.

Nothing at all wrong with electrics, I fly both and I enjoy both.[8D]

I recently bought the Super Star glow RTF. I intend to use it as a trainer for new club members and to use it as a 'demo' flyer for site events where we (the club) invites people to come and see if they would like flying RC. I took the OS LA 40 off and put an OS 46 on board. It flys just great. If the electric version flys as good as the glow does, it will be a great plane to learn with.

Don't forget to work with an instructor on a buddy box or else you will find that your investment will be short lived.

DS.
