Trainer Selection
Hi all and thanks in advance for any response,
I have made very few posts here, a few off line to RCKen who has been very helpfull. I made the decision to get back into model's. I have not flown since control line back in the fifty's. I have the time now and would like to try a rc build. I joined a local club and have decided to build a Sig LT 40 but at the urging of the club I am also going to purchase a arf to fly while I am building the Sig. I was just wondering if you fellas had any insite into all the different arf's out there In the Trainer's just a few are Tower Hobbies, Sig, Lanier, Hobbico. Goldberg Now I have read Kens very well documented trainer selection I was just wondering if you folks have any that are better, make that easier to fly or stouter in case of the ground rushing up to meet the trainer. Sales from the various catalogs put them within a couple gallons of fuel of one another. The best deal going right now seems to be the Tower Hobbies MKII arf at $69 That has to be a pretty fair deal? Hobbico Superstar at $99 and so on. Thanks for any thoughts. D |
RE: Trainer Selection
I just got done building a new Tower Trainer .40 MKII ARF. Overall, it's a nice trainer and a good deal for the money. I had a few minor issues with the build that annoyed me, particularly the aileron and throttle servo cutouts being way too small and needing bored out with a dremel tool.
Based on my experience, I might recommend the Hangar 9 Solo Sport/Solo Star trainer ARFs or the Seagull Models Arising Star .40 ARF. These ARFs are only $10 more than the Tower Trainer .40 MKII ARF, and I believe they would go together just a bit easier than my Tower Trainer ARF did. If you don't mind spending a little bit of extra time fitting and sanding components as you go, the Tower Trainer .40 MkII ARF is a very good value, and I'm looking forward to flying mine once our eight inches of fresh snow melts off. |
RE: Trainer Selection
This probably won't be very helpful, but I built a Sig LT-40 Kadet (.40 size) ARF. I teamed it up with an OS .46 AX and it is a great combination.
