How to Epoxy blind nuts?

Everyone is telling me to make sure to epoxy the blind nuts to the back of the firewall. I case you need to take the engine mount off, the nuts won't fall of inside the airplane.

How do I epoxy without getting on the threads?

Thanks

good question. i have never epoxied blind nuts in and i've never had a problem with them falling inside. i suppose if they do fall in, you could turn the plane upside down and shake!.........epoxy on your threads would be devastating best of luck

Just take a screw the same size as the blind nut and coat it with oil. Screw it into the blind nut, which will apply a coat of oil to the threads in the blind nuts. Now you can glue in your blind nuts. If you get some on the threads the glue won't stick as the threads have been oiled. I usaully seat the blind nuts in place and screw them in tight to the wood with a bolt and washer, then I go back and apply the epoxy to the back of the blind nut and the firewall. Hope this helps and Good Luck, Dave

Once I have installed the motor mount for the last time, I take epoxy and coat the back of the blind nuts and bolts threads. Insures the mount never loosens, which happened to me once on an RTF.

Coat the threads with alittle melted candle wax. Stops the epoxy from getting in the threads and the wax is removed when you screw the bolts in. I am sure there are other ways but that is how I do it whenever I glue around threads. And CA works just as well without the mixing IMO.

I put a small gob of paste wax in the threaded hole on each end of th blind nut, this keeps the epoxy of of the threads. When the epoxy has set, just screw in the bolt and the wax is forced out.

Like bhady but with Vaseline.

I find it simpler to apply medium CA carefully around the flange of each nut and then touch it with a stick dipped into CA accelerator. None of mine have ever come loose.

I usually glue my blind nuts in. I find the best way is to coat a bolt that is fairly long with vasaline and then glue up the blind nut and install it. Then I thread that bolt in. The vasaline is nice and thick and is good insurance against anything getting in the threads.
