Where on the Ail , elev. and rudder do you measure the throws from? inboard , outboard middle?

The best thing to do is try to use degrees instead of inches if possible. On my planes, I just try to get as much as possible. When the instructions are in inches, use the largest part of the surface to start.

let's all hope you never get a jet or a fast plane that only requires 10 degree of deflection but will go as far as 90. they give recommendations for a reason and at extreme deflection you actually cause stress on the surface and excessive drag rather then increasing control input.

thats the problem with you kids you spout off your mouth giving information that may lead to the destruction of someones plane because they took your uneducated advice about your slow trainer rather then just answering the question at hand, which had already been answered.

As for me, I would sppreciate it if you would take the time to read...and then COMPREHEND my posts before you try, so desperately, to show everyone how much you think you know about this fine hobby.

Instead of finding fault in well-meaning advice, both here and in other threads, perhaps you could sit idly by and actually CONTRIBUTE something. Or is that too much to ask from a bitter old circle-flyer?

i lay a straight edge steel ruler on the inboard side of the horz stab next to the rudder and sight down the elevator to get what the kit/arf calls for.i would set them in degrees like was said here if it was a 3d or aerobatic type plane.for a trainer it isnt as critical

I am a kid at heart, but I also have something to back-up my statements.....reason, education, experience and lots of good advice from people who can actually PROVIDE some. You, on the other hand, have demonstrated an alarming propensity for just being contrary for it's own sake.

That kind of thing makes me wonder...why do you have the need to find fualt in well meaning advice, given freely and with no malicious intent? My advice to the OP was sound, qualified, accurate and properly disclaimed.

You chose, for some reason, to satisfy your need to correct my CORRECT advice. Why is that? Do you need that type of self-validation to feel better about your current situation? Is there something about you which begs for recognition of any kind, no matter how it's acheived? I do pity you, and the dozens of others who choose to contribute nothing, criticize everything and the wonder why nobody likes them.

I may be a beginner, but I am a beginner that flies every day at multiple fields and I surround myself with the best people I can in order to improve my skill set. I am attempting to learn rolling harriers...it's not easy. I maintain my professional practice, worship, clean my swimming pool and raise 2 kids in addition to flying every day. I may be a beginner, gramps, but I am no KID.
