Sullivan Retaining Clips
I have a question about Sullivan retaining clips. I fly a Sig LT-40 and I am using Sullivan 2 mm clevises with the metal retaining clips. Does anyone have a trick I could use to put them on and take them off?

RE: Sullivan Retaining Clips
I like those sullivan retaining clips too and use them on nearly all my models. I have a short needle nose pliers that the tip is bent about 80 degrees. I always use it when working with those retaining clips. I do not recall where I got the tool.

I'm assuming you mean these
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...p?&I=LXWL54&P= I just use a pair of short needle-nosed pliers. Works easy. Problem I've had with the Sullivans is that they vibrate loose and slip on the threaded rods becoming useless. I prefer these. A little bulkier but they don't slip on the wires. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXWH36&P=7 |
RE: Sullivan Retaining Clips
I prefer Dubro nylon clevises, no metal on metal, and a piece of fuel tubing slipped over as a safety. never had a failure.

RE: Sullivan Retaining Clips
Sullivan makes a neat little clevis tool that pops the clips off easily and is magnetised to hold them. Go to http://www.sullivanproducts.com/ and see part no. 8524. But to install the clips I agree with Badger that a small pliers works best.

RE: Sullivan Retaining Clips
No matter what type of clevis I use, if they are metal, I follow up by putting a 1/4" piece of rubber tubing over the clevis to keep them closed. I learned the hard way what happens when the clevis's come open in flight.
The Dubro nylon ones, as shown in Bruce's post, are by far the better choice. They don't tend to open up even if the clip comes off. DS. |
RE: Sullivan Retaining Clips
If you're having problems with the metal clevis stripping out, are you using a jam nut on behind the clevis? They are manditory for metal clevises to prevent exactly that problem and metal-to-metal vibration issues.
Personally, I also use those black Dubro clevises a lot, especially in the 4-40 size. |
