Floats
 

I have been looking for floats for my Hobbico Superstar Select since its almost summer and cant really find any. I found these on ebay and was wondering who made them. Dose anybody know? Also are there any better ones out there?

The guy selling them knows, got a box and a manual sitting there. Ask him through EBAY. This seems obvious to me.:D

I use floats on one of my planes, to fly off the SNOW. Skis are smaller, and tend to drop in to foot prints left by others who walk across the middle of the runway to retrive planes, instead of walking across the end. I prefer the GeeBee brand floats there is no assembly to the float itself, therefore no leaks if using on water. They come in a couple of sizes, and Tower has them,28" $33.99 & 33" $39.99.

Sure, just give it enough power! ;) Seriously, some planes are better suited to floats than others. For example, a Piper Cub on floats is cool, a Gee Bee on floats would probably be a nightmare.

I was looking at the GeeBee floats on tower but they are unavailable. Im gonna go check out the floats on the link at hobby people to see if they have any in stock. Any others to consider incase they dont have any?

Nah, needs more power! ;) Just kidding. Assuming the floats weren't made of rocks, it would be fine. My first float plane was a Kyosho Citabria. IIRC, it was a .30-40 size. I flew it with a Saito .45. While the vertical wasn't as good as without the floats, I don't remember feeling that it was underpowered. The extra weight and drag of floats increase the need to fly the plane on the wing and to manage the throttle on landings (i.e. don't just chop it and glide in).

Thanks for the quick response. One of my partners in the "Fractional Ownership Cub" is ordering the floats for it soon. Currently we are still tweaking the plane and flying it at the field. The next step will be the flying lake at the park, and then, Heaven help us, at the beach. Saltwater mixed with servos, receiver, and an engine.....yikes...we're doomed! [:@]

I've got a couple Cubs waiting to be assembled. The odds are very good that I'll put floats on at least one of them. My club field just happens to be on the shore of a lake. ;)

I'm not sure I'd want to fly off of salt water. Be extra careful about sealing the fuse so no water can get inside during takeoff or landing.

I'm not sure what's available right now, it's been a while since I bought a set of floats. The GeeBee floats worked pretty well for me, I actually still have them, but they're on the heavy side.

Are the GeeBees made out of fiberglass? My uncle had a pair of floats on his Nexstar last year at a lake we went to but I never asked him what brand they were. Ill call him and see where he got them.

Just finnished talking to him and he said that ones he has were the same ones that I showed on Hobby People link. He told me that they were made out of wood. Ill go see if they have any at there shop. Just hope I dont crash in the water[sm=drowning.gif]

if you wanted to make floats does anyone have a idea what dimentions or ratio should floats be for a given aircraft I was thinking I would make a set for my nextar, but I am not too sure how big I should go with them is there a general formula about, width X depth X length for a average size float +or-

The reason I ask is because I'm learning to fly my PT-40 and when I get my wings, I would like to fly off the huge lake close to my place. I'm running an os 40FX. Would I be better off with the 46AX??
