I have heard that after run oil is the same as automatic transmission oil, does anyone know if this is true or not?

I would not use AT fluid in an engine. If you must use after run oil, use one marketed for that purpose. If you are buring Omega fuel, note their web site where it states NOT to use after run oil

The only time I might consider useing it is if I were going to lay an engine up for several months.

alot of people use atf booth as afterun and assembly oil.any non gumming oil is better than none.the culprit is the alcohol and the nitro .the nitrol is made from nitric acid.the alchol atracts the moisture in the air and that and the by products of the nitro cause bearings to rust etc.I changed tactis years ago and went with 0 nitro fuels and larger engines[cheaper in the long run] and engines with plain bearings if avaiable in the si9ze I want.then on the last flight of the day I fly at half theottle till the tank runs dry dead stick and use marvel oil .some of my engines are close to 35 years old and still run like new.

Use Air Tool Oil. You can get it relatively cheap.

Remember that an IC engine is really just an air pump.

The standard home brewed after run is 1/2 Automatic Transmission Fluid and 1/2 WD40.
So what you heard was 1/2 correct. ;)

Knowledgable folks don't use WD40 as after run oil. It is good as a solvent for cleaning crud out and unsticking things, however. I use Rislone which is cheap and works well. Lots of folks use air tool oils. The after run oil at the hobby shop strikes me as very expensive.

I'm doubting it. Find a NAPA store or something similar. I know NAPA carries it. If you have a major auto shop in your area ask them where they get theirs.

Yes some folks use 1/2 tranny fluid and 1/2 whatever oil...dont use WD-40. Marvel Mystery oil or 3in 1 oil is okay. I had a brand new OS 60 that I used after run oil in religiously. I burned out the unused fuel, every time i was through for the day. This engine produced black oil from the git go when I took it apart the bearings were rusty.l Go figure
