Know anything about this trainer?

Hi all

ive been offered a MFA Yamamoto trainer aeroplane for £100 with Futaba Skysports 4 radio gear, futaba servos, a bottle of fuel and an MDS .40 engine

for this price i am very tempted, but is the Plane itself actually any good? the radio gear itself costs near the £100 mark new so it still looks like a good deal

Is this the plane?

If so, the kit alone costs 66.5 pounds
Is it already built? If yes, how does it look overall? Any obvious signs of crash damage?
Based on the description at the above site, I'd think it's as good as any other trainer (assuming it is built straight and strong).

The mfa Yamamoto is an old design. I built one as my first power plane back in the early 70's. It had foam obechi sheeted foam wings and was only 3 ch ( no ailerons). The wing has a thick section and blunt leading edge and so is quite stable. I still have the original plan. As I was converting from slope soaring to power I reduced the dihedral and added strip ailerons. Power was a plain bearing Enya 40.
It flew fine but was a little too slow and stable for me. I sold it to a new club member who sucessfuly learned to fly with it.
A word of caution regards the MDS engine. The quality of these is quite variable - some good some very bad.
Sorry I can't help you with the pricing. I've lived this side of the pond for over 25 yrs and so am out of touch with UK values.

I would see how the engine runs before making a decision,as stated above there have been problems with mds engines.

the engine has not been run in and it has only jsut been built, infact hes jsut finishing the covering :D

it doesnt look the most colorful of planes but it looks alright for me to learn on, no obvious crash damage as it has only just been built and never flown

My experience on the MDS engines is that they are pure cr_ _! They run poor out of the box and get worse from there. This being the case if you like the plane, consider wheather the price is still worth it because you will need another engine to fly the plane with!! [8D]
