I am getting the seagull edge 540 with JR st 126mg and was wondering what kind of batt. to get. I usually get 4.8v 1500 but these servos drain alot more.

I was thinking of the 6v 600 is that enough? or do I need to spend more and get the 1000?

I have used those servos. I believe you mean ST125 MG sport servos with 125 oz/in.

First, they are horrible servos. They center poorly and are very sloppy. I no-longer use them.

BUT.... they don't really drain much more power than a standard servo unless you are really banging them around.

I would make the jump to lithiums now and run a 7.4V 2400 MAH Fromeco pack and a regulator. It will last for days in that plane and it can be used later in other planes. You will save some weight too.

How big is that plane?

Running a 6v battery will actually cause a slightly higher current drain, not a lower one. So when you move from 4.8v to 6v, you need to slightly increase not decrease your battery capacity. The advantage with 6v isn't in the battery lasting longer (it's shorter), it's that you get more torque and speed from the servos, and you get a small bit of saftey, since if you drop a cell, you wind up at 4.8v rather than 3.6v

You can find the Fromeco stuff at www.fromeco.com. It is a great way to go about things. I personally think it's pointless on anything smaller than 50cc-class acrobatic planes. I didn't know Seagull made them that big, which is why I was asking up top how big the plane is.

Since the plane isnt that big I guess I will try to find a bigger 4.8v. What brand is the best batt. I usally use the futaba batt. Also what size do you recommend?

You might want to consider a 5-cell Nimh pack. And for a .60 size plane, you'll probably be fine with something in the 1500-2000mah range, depending on how you fly and how many flights you want before recharging.

Now, there's nothing really wrong with putting a Li-Ion/regulator system in a .60 size plane, it's just usually overkill.

If you want a bit of redundancy, you can put a pair of 6v (or 4.8v) Nimh packs in, using two swtiches, and run them to two different ports on the RX. That's the setup I have in my 72" Mosquito. If I loose a switch or battery, I'll have power to land, and it's a simple to put together setup that doesn't cost a ton. Since there are 2 batteries powering the system, a pair of 1200mah cells would do the job (that's a totaly of 2400mah available).

Oh, the brand of the battery really isn't a big deal. The brand of the cell matters more, and even then, it's not that huge of a deal unless you're really pushing the cells. That said, I usually look for Sanyo cells.

In the past, I've ordered custom battery packs from www.cheapbatterypacks.com The same says "cheap", but they do quality work and have a great selection of cells and such. Hangtime seems simular in many ways.
