Precedent Hiboy Trainer
 

Hello, I aquired a hiboy from an old man and I am currently recovering and building a new wing for it. I have covered the fuselage in white solarfilm, but I know there should be lines and stickers on it to break the white, theres too much!lol does anyone know where I can get these or where I could get pictures or templates to copy them?

I know precedent closed a long time back, but maybe theres still a chance. Also the wing that I am building it polystyrene with obechi covering, it says in the instructions to glue it with epoxy, but the epoxy just melts straight thru it. Does anyone know of special epoxy to glue this or some other kind of glue? Thanks Paul!

epoxy melting foam?? what type of epoxy are you using??? IF ITS FINISHING RESIN MAYBE BUT NORMALLY NO. ALSO THERE IS A BETTER WAY TO ATTACH SHEETING TO THE FOAM-DOUBLE SIDED TAPE -AVAILIBLE FROM WING mfg WORKS GREAT & IS LOW WEIGHT. CONTACT CEMENT WORKS TOO BUT USE ONLY ENOUGH- DO NOT OVER DO. i DONT KNOW HOW MUCH THE OBICI WOOD WEIGHS BUT YOU WOULD LIKELY BE BETTER OFF USING BALSA.trim is availible from many sources. Solarfilm??? didnt know that stuffwas still around. never had good results with it-too soft.

I think I had the wrong epoxy, hmm do you not still use solarfilm? What covering do they use now?

Your resin was propably POLYESTER which will melt white foam.

Solarfilm is still around and works well. Flouro orange, white andf mettalic green will give you a contrasting scheme.

The original colour scheme for the HiBoy is not a good one.

Dark underside light topside with a WIDE CONTRASTING BAND ON ONE WING is better.

Disorientation is always a problem when you are learning to fly.

personally ive never liked solar film( too soft & low heat not recommended for gliders.)& havent seen the stuff for sale , at least fresh stuff for 25 years. and there are better materials around . same for orginal super monokote. although IMHO a better product than solar stuff. Ora cover is quite good as wellas ultra cote -which is essentially the same product. it will not melt the foam through the sheeting unless you really go at it with excessive heat. coverrite makes some fine products but they are all a little different.SIG used to market a good covering material as well as BalsaUSA.

You can still buy solarfilm easily in the uk new nowadays. Why is it not good for gliders?
