RE: Field Boxes
Why has it always got to be Alabama? Why can't it be some other random southern state?

RE: Field Boxes
CGRetired, I hate that!! As I said in an earlier post I pretty much pack everything I could possibly need in that Wally-World Tote too, right down to the full assortment of glues including debonder for the CA's & alcohol for the epoxy's complete with Dixie cups & pop-cicle sticks to mix them in. But wouldn't ya know it when I wanted to change out a prop the other I could not find my brand-new prop reamer[:@] It's still MIA today, I never did find the darn thing. Finally just broke down & picked up a new one. Thinking about hooking it to the box with a chain like a Redneck wallet![X(]

RE: Field Boxes
I also new to RC flying. I was in Wally World a couple of weeks ago when I saw the tool box 2H uses. My first thought was "That would make a nice flight box.", but I wasn't sure so I didn't buy it. Then I found this post and saw this picture and went and bought one. I haven't bought my glow plane yet (I am still trying to learn on a HobbyZone Super Cub), but I'm really ready to start flying and using my new flight box. Hopefully next weekend I can get a trainer to take me up on my first glow flight! :D

RE: Field Boxes
here's what I use for my flight line box http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJC65&P=7 it holds a small battery, power pannel, glow igniter,a couple of screw drivers, extra glow plugs, some small stuff and my elec.starter.
and its cheap. then I have the extra gear in a regular tool box in the truck. if somthing is broken to the point I can't fly it, then I will usually go to plan B and get the other plane out that I brought and fly that. when I have fixed stuff at the field that was somewhat major, I always seem to have to re-fix it any way in the shop. so now I would rather take my time and not miss anything, that I could have missed at the field because I had to get "that" plane in the air. it pays to have a back up plan. |

I on the other hand am very obsessive about my tools and field items, so I built a custom box that carries everything I need and is not too big and looks better than an off the shelf plastic box.

I designed my own field box out of coroplast. It's stronger than wood, light, fuelproof, and looks better IMO. The fuel pod and battery pod are both detachable, and can be attached to each other, so that is all I need to take with me to the flight line. The main box with the tools usually stays in my rig. The drawers are held shut with magnets. The copper handle and fuel jug are powder coated for longevity. I have a rip stop nylon cover that goes over it for a rain/dust cover (not pictured).

RE: Field Boxes
ORIGINAL: mimhoff I use this tote from Byron -- I could not find at my LHS but they were nice enough to order for me. I am sure it is not for everone but works great for me -- I only carry the bare essentials to the flight line. I have a power panel in it because I had one but if I wew starting from scratch I would skip it because I use a cordless starter, cordless g;ow starter, and a hand pump for fuel. It makes a very light weight tote (especially if you dont put a 7Ah battery in it). http://www.byronfuels.com/pages/pit_...t_cuddler.html My .02 Mark |

My box is over 20 years old, I guess you can make a box just about out of anything. I'll send a pic when I'm on my wifes computer later this week. I'm writing this while at work.
I like some of those DUPONT home made boxes. Gives me a few ideas of my own when and if... my old box decides to fall apart. Luftwaffe Oberst Radio Aero Modelers Club AMA# 856404 Pulaski, NY |

I use a tool box and a tackle box...
