Who makes the best starter to handle a 1.6 cu.in eng.?
 

I need a new starter and need to be able to start my Zenoah G26 (1.55cu.in) and my OS 160FX (1.6cu.in.) I really don't think I want a cordless starter with a battery. I kind of like to hook it up to my field box battery. Anyone have a starter they really like a lot?

I have found this to be the best way to start my gasoline powered engine (Evolution GT35) and I imagine it would work for you too. Try not to go into sticker shock when you see the price...

Yep, I totally agree. I very rarely use an electric starter for any engine, sized from .25 glow all the way to 45 gas. If the cost of a chicken stick from Tower is too much do what I did, cut off a piece of broom handle and wrap some electrical tape around it. Works great

My flying buddies do have a heavy duty starter for there gas engines & larger glow engines. I'll get the name of it for you this week, but fair warning now, they aint cheap! The ol thick leather glove seems to be the best way for a well dialed in gas engine IMO. I watch those guys fire up this way in 3 to 4 flips max usually. My regular little cheapo cordless Tower starter & my Hobbico starter both had no problem with my Saito 100 (after it was broke in a bit) at first it was definitely a chicken-sticker though. I'll try to get the name of that more powerfull starter for ya though when we fly on Wed.

Actually, I honestly don't mind spending money. But if I can find a way to do something cheaper then I will do that, it leaves more money to spend on planes!!!!! My mom grew up on a Missouri farmer, so I grew up with that farmer's mentality of save money whenever you can. Also, farmers never throw anything out because they never know when they'll need it down the road. I drive my wife crazy because I'm a packrat and don't throw things away!!!!!!! [:@]:D:D:D

Sounds good, I really do need a new starter though. I initally have to use a starter to get my engines going until they are warmed up, then I switch to a chicken stick I made from 5/8" dowel. I then cut it to about a foot or so long and inserted it into a piece of garden hose the same length, it works great. I just need a new starter and am looking for a good heavy duty one.

Put 24 volts to that starter and it should handle both engines with ease.

I have an OS 1.60fx on my extra 260 and have never needed an electric starter. The thing starts up after 1-2 flips, sometimes more in the winter.

That Sullivan looks like the one my friends use that I didn't know the name of. They seem to put out plenty of torque.
