Finding CG??
I have a few older planes that were given to me and waiting to restore them.
I have no literature on the build, what is the process of finding the CG on them? |
RE: Finding CG??
A lot of planes, even discontinued, you can go to the manufacturers website and look up the instruction manual. also if you can use Google you can find som CG calculators online where you type in some measurements from your plane and it gives you a CG location. Most experienced pilots will take a typical high wing and balance it at 25% of the wing chord (length not span) back from the leading edge for an initial flight. maybe as far back as 33% if it's a hotter aerobatic model but even on those 25% is pretty safe for a starting point.
Also if you tell us what you have maybe someone here has one and can tell you exactly where it's suposed to be. |
RE: Finding CG??
Even if we don't have one we may be able to help research it for you. Experience helps in this too.:D

G'day Mark,
Go here, http://www.palosrc.com/instructors/cg.htm & use this calculator, & save it in your favourites, it can be a very handy tool. |
RE: Finding CG??
Thanks for the link alan0899.
Basically the planes are the older U-control me and my dad used to fly, and I wanted to try (if it will work) convert 1 or 2 to radio either powered by electric or glow. I have to recover them as well with monokote, the covering on them are pretty beat. Do they even make Silkspan covering anymore, or even airplane Dope? Been flyin radio for a while now, so I'm not too too much a beginner, but the great thing about this hobby is you'll always learn. I'll see if I can get some pics and specs up soon. |
