beginner plane
Hi,
I'm really a beginner(hardly any experience) and was wondering if there is a plane with the following qualities: -gas powered(glow plug-i'm not sure on the terms!!) -SLOW 10-15mi/hr -very manueverable-something that can turn completly around within 10-15yards -has a pretty good climb -really durabel and won't fall apart the first time i crash-which probally will be pretty frequent!!! -Dirt cheep!!! preferably under 100$ - this might not be possible-I don't have enough RC knowledge to know-hence this post Could y'all give me some names of RC planes that are close to what I've listed? Then I'll start looking for them around! Thanks! |

It really is not possible for the price you have given. Also most glow powered planes that fly that slow need more room to turn around because they are so cumbersome. It can be done with an experienced pilot but begginers need more room to turn the plane around. Now indulge me here and let me make some assumptions. It really sounds like you found a place you think would be great to teach yourself to fly if someone could just point out the perfect indestructable airplane. Well there are no indestructable airplanes and even durable is a loosly used description when a beginner is at the controls. Spend your $100 on a used simulator for the PC and take the time to find the local club. I would bet someone there would be more than happy to show you what I am talking about... Who knows, maybe they will have a club trainer that they will buddy box you on.

I've never heard of such an animal, that fits all the criteria, that you listed. Here's a thought, find a club in your area, go there & ask lots of questions, look at what they are flying, in the way of trainers, then decide. But PLEASE don't try to do it on your own, get HELP, because, if you go it alone, you will crash, & that could cost you a lot more than you think. Of course if you are too proud to ask for help, then just send me all your money, now, & avoid the frustration.:D;) |

Giving it some more thought, there is one plane that comes somewhat close to your description. The Herr Cloud Ranger. It's a kit and if built with an AP .061 and and use a 6x3 prop it should be about right however it will likely fly in the 20-25 mph range and need about 20 yds to turn around. Due to the weight of a SPAD they have to be flown much faster than he wants to fly.

Gents - this is kind of a dream stealer after reading your miserable but truthful replies. I am based in Papua New Guinea and have no means of joining a RC club here since they are non-existance, nor have RC modellers around. I mess around with R/C buggies and C/L planes though - build and fly them myself. I have now obtained a 4 channel radio and am tempted to build a R/C plane to learn fly myself. I have lots of R/C glo engines in my collection. Surely, someone could recommend me a simple plane to start flying with? Should I start off with 3 channels or 4 channels? My only experience is an hr with a R/C plane flyer a few months ago when visiting Australia and he was teaching me how to turn the plane with ailerons + slight elevator up, but never turn with rudder! I feel that I need to go out to the field and try something out. Can someone help out with any positive experience please?

Thanks Daniel Well if you really have no one to help out then the best I can think of is the flying tanks that is us aircore. Now I doubt any one on these boards has ever recomended these planes before, lord knows I haven't, but I have seen one fly and crash, and fly and crash..... I'm talking about straight in to asphalt and back in the air in a few minutes of epoxy cure time. hitting a wing on a pole at full speed, replacing rubber bands, prop and smooshing the dent out of the wing. http://www.usaircore.com/ http://www.sover.net/~badmojo/pages/aircore.html Of course it is just a SPAD and you could build your own from scratch pretty easily and cheaply. |

Most RC aircraft have stall speeds at about 22mph or so...
Only an indoor flyer would go as slow as you've stated, but these are really single channel devices that will not really teach you how to fly larger planes. "Join a club" is good advice! |
