Thin CA, corosion in lid
 

My cap and spout of my CA is covered in CA, I used to use to small pliers to get the lid on and off, but now I use 2 large ones. I tried to use sand paper to smooth it out but that didn't work, any ideas and what I could soke the lid in and smooth out my spout?

Prevent the problem.

After each use, tap it on the table a few times then squeeze the bottle and blow it out so it breaths. Then put the cap on, no problems after that.

What a simple solution! I fight this every time I use CA yet I never even thought to try something as simple as this. I almost threw out half a bottle of medium CA for this very reason just the other day. Now I know how to prevent it.

I use the same method as YNOT, which works very well, but it is not fool proof. I also keep a small glass jar close with old caps and tips in it soaking in acetone. This dissolves the ca. Just remember to be very careful handling the acetone, as it is a fairly hot solvent. I also use [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXB970&P=0]these [/link] type of applicators with ca. When the tip starts to get clogged you can trim it with a razor or knife. You can also clean it out after each use with acetone.

Figured this out for Poly U glue as well. After using, let it sit for a minute or two without the lid for the contents to settle out of the spout then cap. Haven't had any issues since with clogged tips.

Also make sure the bottles always stay upright.

In addition to letting it sit a minute and tapping it on a hard surface I keep an old RAG handy TO WIPE THE TIP AFTER TAPPING. DON'T use a paper towel, the blue towels work but a rag is better. If you don't wipe the tip you are putting glue in the cap and it will set up and make a mess.

Another hint is to chip any glue off the tip with a finger nail. Any other material will peel the coating off the tip and let the glue set up on the tip the next time. ENJOY !!! RED

Use ptmac3's solution.

Just place the tip in a small jar of acetone (Close tightly)

After a few hours the tip will look brand new.

Save the jar of acetone for next time

One tip should last the entire bottle of CA. If it clogs snip the tip off.

No need to remove the tip, as the nozzle is so thin that usually the CA never gets enough air to harden.

Just put one on the bottle and forget about it.
