Fuel Can Fitting Set
Can I drill a hole in the top of a Cool Power fuel jug? It has the special top that you have to push down to open. Im not sure if that will make a difference. I have [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJ811&P=ML]this fitting set[/link], so im making sure if I drill a hole to install it, it wont cause any problems like sealing the jug.

RE: Fuel Can Fitting Set
usually at the end of the day i will put the red stopper and a stock cap back on the fuel bottle. And take the modified cap off the bottle. If you don't have any extra caps try looking in the trash cans at your field seems like everyone tosses their old jugs. Another idea would be a cap off a windshield washer fluid jug.

i might have to just drill this one and hope the fuel doesnt go bad. THen Ill save this lid for use with later fuel jugs. If I keep the lid tight and the fitting set tight, I dont think the fuel will go bad.

Shorty - If you use your fuel at a typical rate you will be fine using that fitting system and don't worry about the other caps. Maybe save one cap for winter storage but that's about all. I have a similar system and never have a problem. I don't have the "adult-proof" cap but it shouldn't make a difference. Find a regular cap that fits if you can, I guess.

I like to make my own. I just Dremmel a hole in the lid and use an old fuel tank stopper. I have a few laying around for some reason.

RE: Fuel Can Fitting Set
I use 2 brass tubes sealed with clear silicone; The filler line has a brass tube on the end; the vent has a piece of fuel tube into which I stick the brass filler tube when not using. I have fuel that sits all winter like this with no problem. I don't think a little bit of moisture is as big a worry as some think.

RE: Fuel Can Fitting Set
I have the same fittings, and did exactly what you described, and it's working great.

RE: Fuel Can Fitting Set
I have had great results with the great planes filling set. I just used zip ties to fasten the top fuel tubing on tight.

RE: Fuel Can Fitting Set
I installed them. They are tight, so hopefully they dont fall off or leak.

RE: Fuel Can Fitting Set
it will give you years of service mine is 4yrs old and going strong just check the lock nuts once and a while they loosen up once in a while.
as for fuel going bad it seals the can fine the enemy of fuel is cold, don't let your gas freeze. opening, closing, and switching caps, will get you nothing but dirt in your fuel. you don't want that. |
RE: Fuel Can Fitting Set
I keep my fuel in my basement, so it will stay at a pretty normal temperature. I cant wait to fly my plane for the first time. I taxied it around my yard yesterday for fun.

alex24, you may be able to answer this (or anyone else).... I purchased a similar fuel cap that came with those super thin metal pins. What is their purpose? |
RE: Fuel Can Fitting Set
I can't see your pictures for some reason but if they look like thin wire they are for wrapping around the tubing to tie it onto the fitting. Usually not needed.
Do they look like the wires in this picture? http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...87&FVPROFIL=++ |

Here's a link to the image.
http://www2.gpmd.com/image/s/sulq2487.jpg I thought they may be used to clean the filters. |

Meant to be wrapped around the line once or twice and then twisted to keep from falling off fitting. |
RE: Fuel Can Fitting Set
I've seen them used in planes but most don't bother in ground support equipment.
