Pledge to shine your plane?
Anyone ever use Pledge to shine your plane? A guy at my local flying field said it works great.

RE: Pledge to shine your plane?
I've heard it works well on canopies, but never tried it personally.

RE: Pledge to shine your plane?
I use it all the time on my planes. It gives monokote a nice shine, and leaves a little film of wax that IMHO makes it easier to clean your plane.

Makes sense to use it. I did on my ultralight to make it easier to clean. Don't know why I didn't think of using it for my RC planes.
Ken, I think regular Pledge is wax free. What version do you use? |

I hereby pledge to shine my plane ... I pledge to shine it after every flight

RE: Pledge to shine your plane?
All the silicon furniture sprays work very well. Will make an airplane look show ready in just a few minutes. Does not last long but when you are attending an event and want that eye appeal as you are unloading then its perfect.
As said it does indeed make clean up at the end of the day easier with just rags or paper towels for whatever reason. Years ago I worked as a corporate pilot for a large Nevada casino flying both fixed and rotor wing. The casino owner was a fixed wing pilot and part of my job description was to train him in rotors. Anyway when he seen how Pledge worked on the helicopter bubbles he had very large lots of the stuff ordered for all the aircraft and forever after that he always referred to me as the "best dam window cleaner he had ever hired":D |
RE: Pledge to shine your plane?
I'll have to try the Pledge, it will give my airplanes a nice lemon scent. One thing I have tried and really like is some of the quick detailer sprays for cars. Meguires makes some good stuff that works great on Monokote and Ultacoat.

RE: Pledge to shine your plane?
Ya sissies, No one can see that dirt and slime while it's flying anyway. Unless your that guy that unloads your trailer never, fuels a single plane and packs up at the end of the day with his static displays. Just play'n but my point is I just wipe em down and cleean them well when I have to do any maintenance. Ya, I guess I'm a little lazy about the show 'n shine side of the hobby.

RE: Pledge to shine your plane?
Pledge works brilliantly! It cleaned, shined and removed small scratches on my Monokote and canopy. It even shined up my wheel pants. The plane feels faster and sleeker. Like it can just slide through the air effortlessly. It also helped smooth out the edge of the decals.

RE: Pledge to shine your plane?
wow, I tried this stuff and my plane looks great. Although my plane has only been taxied around my yard. But still, its looking good.

RE: Pledge to shine your plane?
Wow what next?
Air freshner in our glow fuel? Oh, wait a second.... :D:D:D |
RE: Pledge to shine your plane?
I bet it also decreases drag :D
|
RE: Pledge to shine your plane?
It also makes Julian Fries too!!!!
Whatever the heck those are!!!!! :D Ken |
RE: Pledge to shine your plane?
Julian fries? never heard of them, then again id never heard of twinkies before i went to florida for a couple of weeks...
anyway, RCKen was saying earlier about it leaving a waxy layer over the covering, but someone said the regular pledge is wax free... so why does pledge make it easier to clean? its that time of night and the coffee is kicking in... |
RE: Pledge to shine your plane?
It is a micro layer of silicon that provides the shine and slippery feeling, not wax. Cheaper brands of any of the spray silicon furniture polish work just as well. Armoral also works very well but is far more expensive.

RE: Pledge to shine your plane?
You guys are braver than I am. If my wife caught me cleaning my airplanes with furniture polish, she'd have me shining up the whole house and I'd never get to go flying!
