Does it count if you just GRIND about an inch off your prop,
or , do you count it as a broke prop? :eek:
I had a bad case of the dumb ASS Sunday and came in on the nose wheel every time.
I started the day with a Master airscrew 11+7.5 prop, ended up with something like 10+7.5 at the end of the day..

Pretty funny. Trimming a prop down evenly isn't a problem, though it's usually less efficient than it is at full length.

However, snapping off the tips usually doesn't happen evenly, and you wind up with a prop that vibrates like heck, which is bad for the airframe and espeically the electronics.

Now, if you want fun, try trimming off both blades at the root while in the air. It takes a bit of doing, but if you manage to keep the engine running, the peak RPM is amazing (for a moment, anyway) :D

I'm purty sure it was not even on both sides, and , yes it did viberate, but , it did not break... That should count for something.. huh.

Hi Gary,
Tempting as it is to just fly on, your engine, airframe and electronics wont thank you for it.
If you have a prop ballancer you could reballance the prop, but as it is the outer part of the prop that moves through the air the fastist, and produced proportionally more thrust than the inner part, you will loose more power than you may imagine.
Anyone who has flown indoor foamies with small electric motors will know where I am comming from.

If I clip a prop, I change it. If cash is tight, at the very least, ballance it.

That is nothing. I was flying low high speed passes with my Sig Something Extra. At the time I was using a Zinger 12x4 wood prop. I got a little low and broke 85% of one blade off. The vibration was tremendous but I managed to complete the pass, turn around and land all without killing the engine... Come to think of it though I think the bearings failed on that engine about a month later[:@]

And have you had the RX fail yet?
Vibrating a receiver for any length of time will often shorten it's life. And glue joints usually aren't strengthened by that treatment.

A $3.00 prop is much cheaper than a $50.00 receiver and the damage that broken receiver will cause when it destroys your $150.00 airplane and your $100.00 engine or the damage it could cause if it fails in flight and hurts somebody or destroys property.

Do yourself a favor.. just replace the prop. An APC 12-7 is about 3 bucks at our local hobby shop.
