New Rc Trainer
 

Hello everyone I am about to buy a new RC trainer in the next few days. I am just wondering about any help or tips you can give me. Such as how to fuel her up with a fuel pump, the igniter etc, etc. Also any tips or techniques you had when you were a beginner are greatly appreciated?? Thanks all in advance, Jack

Please do yourself a favor and talk with another modeler, preferably someone who can assist you with your minor assembly, starting, and flying efforts. There are many little tips and tricks that are too numerous to list here.

i'm just curious, what trainer are you purchasing, i am also new to the hobby so i wouldn't be able to give you any good tips

Ok thanks I am thinking of the Hobbico Avistar 40 or even the nexstar trainer!! Depends what I can get my hands on!

I would suggest you find a club and learn to fly there. Most R/C clubs are affiliated with a model aero association (ours is the BMFA, British Model Aero Association) which automatically covers liability insurance, which is an issue as a plane can go a long way before coming to ground if you lose control of it, and it has the potential to do a lot of damage when it hits.
Also, as mentioned above, fellow club members will be able to give you hints and tips, as well as quite likely a "buddy lead" to enable your plane to be flown up to a "safe" altitude, where you can practice flying, but who is on standby via a connected transmitter and can take control at any time to recover a mistake you have made.
The chances are that if you go and try to fly the thing yourself without any assistance, you'll take it home in a rubbish bag, so it's well worth finding a local club. :-)

I just got in to theis hobby and have flow my super cub trainer and my neighbors 4 channel cessna(he just got that as his first plane). I taught my self to fly and on my 3rd day I was doing tricks and flying upside down. I have been flying for 2 weeks now with no crashes of my own and can get my plane to do any thing I want with out any issues. My plane is electric and I have bought bigger batts to make it faster (it will now climb stright up) I guess what I am tring to say is that you can teach yourself how to fly without wrecking

But seriously, get some help before you hurt yourself. We all love this hobby and I am not trying to tear you down at all. Please listen to the advice you get in this forum. Flying an electric park flyer and a glow trainer are very different things. You will need help with ground work and flying...trust me on this.

I don't want to discourage you, but I would rather you were discouraged than injured or sued.

Yes please listen to the advice you recieve here. Im still new to this hobby myself but Ive learned my lesson on the difference between electric parkflyers and glow powered planes.

I too started on the Hobbyzone Super Cub and was very proficient at flying it , but it in no way made me to where I could fly glow powered planes.I had to have an instructor!! Plus, Aside from all the ground work(tuning your engineand etc..) glow powered plane are alot faster in the air than some electrics,at least the super cub anyway,which in my opinion seperates electric and glow in comparison. You will need an instructor in order to learn how to handle the takeoff without plowing into something or someone,being able to maintain smooth control of your plane in the air, your approach for Landing(which is definitly different than the super cub) and the dreadfull event of a deadstick .

As teh above stated, Im not trying to discourage or tear you down,but there is a huge difference between these 2 types of planes.;)

RC Ken put in considerable effort to develop a thread that shows some.. many (but I'm sure not all which would be quite impossible) trainers out there and all their capabilities. It's the very first post in the Beginner section labled "Sticky". Take a good look in there. Maybe you can get some ideas and perhaps generate a few questions about some particluar model you may like.
