Tiger 60 Build
I recently purchased a Tiger 60 along with an OS .61FX. This will be my first build and second plane so I need to know pretty much EVERYTHING I will need to complete the build. I also wanted to know what size prop to put on it? If you could help me out that would be great! Thanks.

Well, [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4997091/anchors_4997091/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#4997091]here's my 2 cents on the Tiger[/link]
I'm sure if you search the forums for Tiger 60 you'll find more than enough to keep you reading for a while... |
RE: Tiger 60 Build
Great combination. That's exactly how I setup my second plane after solo. It flew just fine and had adequate power. I since put a Super Tigre 75 on board with a MACS tuned pipe and it is more capable now. But, you are spot on with your setup.
Only recommendation I have is to be careful with what you do at the tail, it may/could could come out somewhat tail heavy. Mount the engine and do the throttle last and use it to help set up the CG by moving forward or aft as needed to help control the CG. Once satisfied with it's placement, bolt it down and do the throttle linkage. Best of luck with it. I love mine, have had it for several years now and fly it frequently. Oh, one more thing..make sure you slot the steering wheel rod so that it remains straight. Mine has a tendency to twist on me after two or three flights which causes some interesting landings at times. Several of us have spent some time trying to figure out why the thing want to turn like that even though I've done all I can to prevent it, including replacing it a couple of times. Next step is conversion to tail dragger, which you may consider anyway... making it a tail dragger rather than a tricicle gear setup. DS. |
RE: Tiger 60 Build
Thanks for the posts guys. From what I've read, the general consensus is that the Tiger 60 becomes tail heavy. That will help me out a lot with my build. If you have any more tips keep them coming. I was also wondering what size prop should I put on? Also, do you recommend any specific type of adhesive for the build?

RE: Tiger 60 Build
I recommend Tite Bond II for most of the construction. There are a few places where epoxy is needed and a good 30 minute epoxy should be used there. Quicker epoxies may take a set too soon for your building abilities and are not quite as strong either. You'll need a little THIN CA for the hinges if you use CA hinges.

RE: Tiger 60 Build
Thanks a lot. I will give the Tite Bond a try. Any recommendations on the size prop and servos to use?

RE: Tiger 60 Build
Standard servos are plenty strong, I use futaba 3004's in my Tiger 60. Break the engine in on the reccomended prop
then you can jump something like a 13x6. I have an OS 61 SF. Model before the FX and with a 13x6 I turn 9800 RPM with good speed and climb. |
