i'm going to buy [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGGV7&P=0]this[/link] engine and i'm gonna get some fuel and plugs with it also, i'm just wondering if i should get the [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXA306&P=0]expensive[/link] stuff or if the [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJC55&P=0]cheap [/link] stuff is fine, and also what would be good plugs for it, are the tower power plugs fine or should i get better ones

OS #8 plugs http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXCB27&P=ML are fine for this application. Don't use the cheap Tower plugs as they tend to have short life spans. Note the quantity breaks offered by Tower.

Pick us some 10-15% nitro fuel at your local hobby shop (LHS) SHipping charges on fuel are high and you will save nothing.

If this is for your first trainer get some Master AirScrew MAS props too. Much sturdier than the other types. You can switch to APC props once you stop hitting the ground with the prop on a regular basis.:D Wood is great if YOU own the tree.

ok, thanks, i will get a couple of those plugs, as far as fuel i will probably pick it up at the hobbyshop because of shipping (oh and is the cheap fuel ok), i'll order a couple of those props too, i now have another question is [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?&I=LXL208&P=V]this[/link] mount good for the engine (it's the one that comes with the plane) or do i need a different one

oh yea, and incase anyone is wondering i'm getting the hobbico avistar (it's what i flew at the club and i loved it):D

For $22.00 more you will be much better off with either of these engines. The LA is a bushed bearing engine and uses an air bleed carb. These are ball bearing engines and are 2 needle carbs. They have more power than a 46LA and will be a lot more useable on other planes.

I also second the OS #8 plugs. I have tried a variety of other plugs (Fox, McCoy, Tower, etc ) and found the OS #8 delivered more power, a better idle, better transition and longer plug life.

That mount is fine. That type is quickly becoming a standard for ARF's and RTF's it would appear. It's quick and easy to use. Would I go out of my way to buy one? No. I buy a regular mount when I build a kit that doesn't come with a mount that I like or doesn't fit my engine choice. It's OK though, just not great. If ya know what I mean.:D

Avistar is a good plane for an "advanced beginner", if there is such a thing. Avistar is a fun plane to keep in your long term hangar.

i flew the avistar at my field on a buddy box and i loved it, by the time i was done i was landing and taking it off (thanks to realflight):D

I think you should thank your instructor and not an inanimate box. I doubt you would have made it without him withou destroying a couple along the way.
