Assembling Dowl Based Push rods
Hi,
So, I have everything put together for rudder and elevator pushrods on this Kadet Senior. I have the shrink tubing on the ends. I was wondering if you add an extra bit of protection, and place a small zip tie on each end, to make sure that wire never comes out of dowel? I did epoxy as well. G |
RE: Assembling Dowl Based Push rods
Rather than using shrink tubing, I usually wrap string or thin uninsulated wire around it and then epoxy it in place.

RE: Assembling Dowl Based Push rods
Shrink tubing that comes with it is not a good idea.I go along the same lines as Piper here. I wrap it in with very thin fibeglass cloth with epoxy soaked in it. Very stable this way

I wrap my ends in thread and use thin CA to seal the thread. I am thinking a tie wrap might have the chance to get hung up on something. Good Luck, Dave

i dont use the dowls in the kits rather use nyrod and metal rod combined with the nylon tubes.they are about the same weight mabey a little less and not as many worrys about them failing.

RE: Assembling Dowl Based Push rods
Ditto with wrapping with thread and saturating with CA glue (or epoxy if you prefer). In fact, that's what the instructions used to tell you to do when I built a Kadet Senorita.
Look at the line guides on a fishing rod and you get the idea of what to do. |
