First Flight
Hey Guys,
I got a Boomerang a while ago with a JR radio (6ch) and an OS AX46. I have flown a little electric plane before, but other than that no flying experience. I was on here a while ago asking about stuff and people said go to a club. Well I went to a club, but because I recently lost my job I couldn't afford to join, and it's on Sunday anyway, which is when I play soccer! Anyway, after FINALLY fixing all the problems I decided to try and fly it (not at a club). Well it took off well and I really enjoyed it for about 2 minutes, but then I realised how fast the darn thing was and I said to my mate "I've gotta get this thing on the ground". Unfortunately I tried, but it came so fast down the strip I wanted to land on that I just couldn't do it. Anyway, ended up putting it into an olive bush. I had to climb about 10ft to get it out. Thankfully it was only the wing that snapped. So it is a lot cheaper than it could have been. To any noobies reading this...PLEASE go to a club....I know that when I get my plane fixed, I will DEFINITELY be going to the club to learn how to fly!!! If people would like to comment on my stupidity, you're more than welcome. But it's definitely a fantastic motor, and they're great fun!!! They travel VERY far VERY quickly though...it's astounding!!! Cheers |
RE: First Flight
G'day Mate,
That's where an Instructor comes in, he/she will trim the plane, so it flies slow enough for you to control it, usually straight & level at half throttle, there is no substitute for experience, with this addiction, um I mean, hobby. I'm not gunna say anything about what you did, I'm just glad you now realise, that we do know what we are talking about. It is a bit harder than it looks, this flyin stuff. EH. And one more thing, the 40 size Boomerang is a great plane with an OS 46AX, Bloody GOOD Choice. Well Done. |
RE: First Flight
Cheers Mate!!
Yeah I got the motor because I want to put it in a PC9 when I'm proficient with the trainer...it's a LOT further away than what I first thought!!! :P Everyone says you should get an instructor (which I wanted, I was just impatient), but no one said they go like 5000000 miles an hour!!! I was shocked!!! And then I was packing my dacks!!! I was actually kind of relieved when it hit the tree...saved me more time that it would be in the air and I'd have no idea how to get it down!!! |
RE: First Flight
Well, no lectures. Got a feeling you've given yourself a few since that day already.:D Most important thing is that you know how much fun you have to look forward to and realize that you need a bit of help.
Welcome to the hobby.:) |
RE: First Flight
I don't know why people just won't take advice.. one hard lesson learnt when there was no need. I get all steamed up when people don't want to listen and take steps that they are not ready for . I don't feel sorry for them just fell sorry for the plane.
One hard lesson learnt |
RE: First Flight
Dale_8888,
Don't let let anyone beat you up over your decision. Should you have used an instructor, yeah, but at least you have learned from your mistake. Move on, get you an instructor. You will feel MUCH better about learning to fly! I had my first lesson last weekend and afterwards I was walking about 2 feet off the ground. It was a HUGE adrenaline rush! I've tried to learn by myself with an electric and it just doesn't work. The instructors are there to bail you out and talk you through your problems while flying. Trust me, you will feel much better about your ability once you've successfully flown with an instructor. |
