How Long Is To Long Without Help
I just wanted your opinon. I was feeling good about flying my Tower Trainer and started to get to the point that I was trying new things. It has been 3 months since I have flown. Do you think I would have any problems going it alone?
This real life stuff stinks. I just haven't been able to get out to the field. chopper man |
RE: How Long Is To Long Without Help
all depends on how experienced you were when you stopped. If you have doubts then you should get help if you know you can go it alone then do so.

RE: How Long Is To Long Without Help
If you soloed, and were 'trying new things' all by yourself with no buddy box, you should be fine. I recently helped a friend of mine 'learn again' after not having flown for over 10 years. 2 minutes in the air, he was good to go.
It's like riding a bike. Once you learn, you don't forget. |
RE: How Long Is To Long Without Help
I agree.
You may be nervous on takeoff and a couple circles, but keep it up high and soon enough you'll be doing touch and go's for practice. |

Thanks for your opinion. I hope to get out this week and give it a shot.

Hi Chopper, good to have you back. Just take it easy for a couple of flights and avoid any serious winds, you should regain your skill level quickly. Remember that altitude is your friend. If you are just simply too nervous don't be too shy to ask an instructor to get you airborn the first time and turn it over to you once in the air.

RE: How Long Is To Long Without Help
My stepfather is learning to fly again after a 20+ year hiatis (spelling?) He claims it isn't like riding a bike. He is 20 years older, glasses, and when he learned to fly before he flew around himself. (Constantly turning left with the plane) Now he is flying as I was tought. Flying figure 8's over the runway. It has been a whole new learning curve for him. But he told me that tommorrow morning he is doing the takeoffs. I am already excited for him. Had he not had planes around and given me one to learn on last fall I wouldn't have learned and been able to buddy box him now.
Just thought I would share. Del IMHO 3 months and 20 years aren't near the same thing. Just had to put in my 2 cents. |
RE: How Long Is To Long Without Help
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I hate it that it has been so long, well 3 months since I have last flown. With my wifes illness my little girl and work it is hard to find time for yourself. I hopefully will have more time to join in on the conversation hear at Rcuniverse as well. I miss that too. Again thanks to all. Fly safe and have a ball[8D]

It's a SMART person that isn't afraid to ask for assistance, even if it's only to stand by your side for a few minutes. I respect the person that ask for a little assistance, besides it makes me feel good!!! ENJOY !!! RED

Stand there and think you way through a flight. Heck, hold your TX and do a dry run. Anything bother you? If not, then have at it, but........... When you get to the field, do the same thing before taking off. If it don't feel right, then don't do it. edit........ duh, just noticed the recent posts. It's still good advice, if a bit late. |
