Socket head screws for engine for rascal?

Is there anyone who used a socket/hex type screw for a rascal 40 engine (between engine and mount)? I am gonna try that?

Is there a website where i can learn stuff about types and purpose of different kinds of screws, bolts, nuts , washers etc?
thanks!

If the mount is metal, you will need machine screws. If it's a composite, you will need sheet metal screws. Dubro and Great Planes make both in a socket head configuration. Use #4 for anything up to a .45 and #6 for larger engines. Be sure you drill the proper size pilot hole for the sheet metal screws and the proper clearance hole for the machine screws. With a composite mount, use a little lube (I like white lithium grease for various reasons) on the screw the first time you turn it in.

I use all machine screws in my motor mounts[ composit or otherwise]. I tap the holes[ drilled the appropreate size ] with a machine tap snd screw the bolt right into the mount. If this eventually stripps out I can then put locking nuts on them.

I do the same thing, socket head screws into composite mounts, I have never had one to strip out yet. but I let the socket head tap the threads in the composite mounts after I drill the proper start hole. I use almost all composite motor mounts anymore.

If it strips out, then it's not done right. Use the sheet metal screws and they won't strip and won't back out, either.
