Dual Conversion
 

I have a Futaba 7C Radio, I currently use the New 168 RX in my models. On channel 13. I have acquired 2
older Stick planes One a .60 size and one a .25 size. I know that I have to have a low band neg. shift RX
but can I use a single conversion RX or do I have to stick with a dual? Also can you explain the Diff between
single and dual conversion.

I am not trying to be cheap but I don't want to spend 50+ on RX for planes
that I am not even sure how good they fly.

I've never used one but have heard that the Berg's are good full range RX's. Be sure to use their crystals.

You can use either single or dual conversion RX's interchangably but be carefuls as many single conversion units are NOT full range.

Single/dual conversion refers to the internal processing of the RF signal. Different crysatal are also used. In the dual conversion units the signal is "mixed" twice before final processing of the data stream while in the single it is only "mixed" once.

Dual Conversion
A type of receiver that converts the incoming frequency through two intermediate stages. This tends to eliminate the type of interference known as "image". With high-precision components, it also allows the receiver to be much more precise in selecting the incoming channel it accepts. This is what helps the receiver to be very narrow-band.

What Futaba says about their dual conversion is obviously true. And keep in mind that it's their advertising approach as well as their design choice.

Keep in mind that dual conversion is not the only method of clarifying the incoming signal. So don't make the mistake of assuming that if it doesn't say dual conversion that it will have less range or that it won't filter as well.

Don't let advertising catch-phrases drive your choices.

If the RX you're thinking about buying says it's dual conversion, excellent. That's how they chose to make it better.

If the RX you're thinking about buying says nothing about "conversion", excellent. They're using another method of filtration and it just might be lots better. You want to know how to tell? You can't. About all we have is the advertising BS. And some of the BS happened onto words that really catch the imagination. And wind up in our base of "sound byte wisdom".

The Berg receivers have a solid reputation and that's a good price. At $50 including crystal, it's a good deal.

Thanks guys. Like I said I am not trying to be cheap but the .25 stick is a smaller frame and I am changing it from
4 full size sevos to 5 mini's I am also lightening the airfame a bit. I really don't want to run a full size RX because I
feel like I am defeating the purpose of losing weight.

All the latest technology crammed into an amazingly small package (light too!). I just ordered 3 of them... they're great! [Releatively] cheap too...
