LOST...HELP PLEASE!
First let me say that I am clueless about planes! A couple of months ago a family friend had given me a RC gas plane? and the following week he died from back surgery. I am not sure why he had given me the plane because I have really never had a interest in planes or rc equipment. That being said, I am now moving and have no idea what kind it is, what these parts are, how it works. I think in the long run I have better odds killing myself than flying this thing. Anyways, I had taken it out in my yard and attempted to figure it out. Much less to say....I gave up. A guy next door saw me and asked if he could buy it. I don't know what it is worth. Can anyone help me out????? I am really clueless as to what to do or where to go to get information.

RE: LOST...HELP PLEASE!
Does this look like your plane?
http://www.hangar-9.com/Products/Def...ProdID=HAN2175 The plane or radio aren't on the market any longer which makes accurate pricing hard. And you can't shouldn't expect new prices anyway. this also is far-far-far from a beginner plane in case he is new to flying. He should NOT fly this as a first plane. wild guesses as to NEW values: Plane $150-180 Radio $130 - 160 Engine $ Unknown |
RE: LOST...HELP PLEASE!
yep that looks like it. Glen, my family friend never flew it either, he just put it together for me. It is not on the market because it is dangerous? I wouldn't want to give anyone anything that would be bad for them. I have never had a rc anything so I will not attempt to fly it
|
RE: LOST...HELP PLEASE!
It's not any more dangerous than any other plane, they all have hazards and are not to be considered harmless toys. It just didn't sell well enough to stay in production or something better came along as in the case of the radio system. Constant improvements. Has your friend/neighbor flown before? If not he needs to find a beginners type plane and master it before flying this one. This would be a much better third plane or possibly second depending on his aptitude.

RE: LOST...HELP PLEASE!
Clueless21,
Check around your area for any local R/C clubs, (I'd be surprised if there wasn't). If you're fortunate enough to find one, and there are any long time flyers, you may be able to show someone there this equipment. You stand a better chance of getting accurate information, from someone viewing the equipment in person. I'm not discounting Bruce's help. It's just easier to tell first hand. Simply because, some equipment has different versions and options. Plus, they would probably be able to tell what engine it has. Who knows, if you go out to their field, they may let you fly a club trainer, or even help you get that plane in the air. You could even get bitten by the flying bug, and decide to keep the plane, learn to fly, and honor your friend by eventually flying that plane. After you get a lot of experience. As mentioned, that's not a plane for a novice pilot. Good luck with your decision. And, let us know which way you go. EJ |

RE: LOST...HELP PLEASE!
I'll buy either the engine, radio, or the whole plane from you. I'll drive to your house I live about an hour away (Enola, PA 17110). How much do you want for the whole plane or a specific part of it?

RE: LOST...HELP PLEASE!

RE: LOST...HELP PLEASE!
ID....i first need to figure out what all the things are worth. I really need to get an idea and let you know.
|
RE: LOST...HELP PLEASE!
You got it for free? anything you make is a profit. Free money!
|
RE: LOST...HELP PLEASE!
Used RC planes and equipment are not very valuable. Unless (and this is rarely the case) they were a special issue of some kind. You will be furtunate to get 25% of the original value, usually much less than that.
|
RE: LOST...HELP PLEASE!
Yes, used airplanes bring only a small fraction of the original total price of the engine, kit, radio, glues, hardware, etc. and the many hours of labor are NEVER recovered unless you are building a specific kit for a specific customer and you have an understanding up front as to value of labor. An accepted practice, I believe, is to receive an unbuilt kit in exchange for building the kit. You build a guy a Super Skybolt, approximate value $150.00, you get one in exchange for the 80 hours or so of labor to build the first kit. Not much compensation for your time although the Skybolt is arguably the prettiest bipe ever come along. That all being said, the airplane you have is very attractive. Depending on the engine in it, you can expect a couple hundred dollars out of it. Free money, as was mentioned before. The question becomes: which do you prefer--the airplane that you will never fly sitting around gathering hangar rash or a couple hundred bucks in your pocket to blow on whatever hobby you prefer.

RE: LOST...HELP PLEASE!
It's like buying a brand new car, but one that's not made anymore. Hard to find parts if needed, out of date electronics/radio, etc. The engine is probably the only thing you could expect to get near full price for, but that will depend on the engine model and the demand for that type engine. Take it around to a few of the clubs Bruce listed for you and see what they think it's worth. You should get a much better idea for a price from people who can "fiddle" with it a bit. I'd definately sell it as a kit and not piece it out. I'm new to the hobby, but buying and selling anything will always be the same. Buyer - as much as I can get. Seller - As little as I can spend. Somewhere, the two will meet and agree on a price. Good luck....

RE: LOST...HELP PLEASE!
thanks guys it is really helpful to get an idea about this stuff.

RE: LOST...HELP PLEASE!
You could also bring it to your local hobby shop and put it on consignment there. They may have better luck selling it more for what it's worth than trying to sell it by word of mouth.
