2nd Plane Suggestions?
 

Hello everyone, maybe you all can help me decide on what my 2nd plane will be!...
I have been flying since about january/february of 2007, I am 18 years old,
and My trainer is a Nexstar (modified) such as-Converted to a taildragger, Flaps, and a Four Stroke .61 ASP motor,
and I have all Spektrum DX-7 equipment.

I know that I have learned alot better, and faster than most people do, well at least at my club.. lol...
But my dad taught me, and he has been flying since he was a teen... so, I have a good teacher!

But now I believe it is time to get a second plane, I am starting to become "bored" with the nexstar, even though it does have alot of mods that a 2nd plane would have.
I just want something that is a little aerobatic... I have been looking at the SIG Somethin Extra, I want to stay with the taildragger... I think it would be dumb to go to a tricycle gear,
since I have already learned on a taildragger..

SO Help me out!.. lol.. I would like to have about 2-3 choices at the least!....

what does DAD say? He is your instructor.
Dont get the idea that a tail dragger is harder than a trike gear, it is not, it's just different.
so let me ask you this, what do you want to do, fly warbirds? then perhaps a sig sse would do you.
or if you want to fly areobatics? then a midstar 40 with a .46 ax but it is a trike. it is fast and aerobatic

A cheap fun plane is a Hanger 9 Twist . Perfoms well on about any .46 2 stroke.

A lot depends on what you want to do. , My second plane was a 4* , One of my favorite planes . very aerobatic and forgiving.

well, dad was kind of leaning towards the sig sse...

as for what I want to fly, well, I have a H9 Spitfire that we are building right now, (not that im gunna fly it right now) But something for me
to take to some warbird flyins.... SO, I guess you could say that I am into wardbirds...
I also have some electrics that we fly... such as a Clipped wing cub, which is mine... that I fly on regular basis..

I really enjoy all types of flying... besides 3d, Im not really into that, If I want to hover, I will buy a heli....

haha!.. my dad owns a TWIST.. lol.. I have flown it on the buddy box, and landed it... It is enjoyable to fly, but its HIS, lol....
and I really dont want the SAME plane..

I have spent a lot of time looking at "second planes" recently. I have still never flown a plane, so my advice is only based on reading a lot about them and looking at them, but my favorites are the Cloud Dancer (just cause it looks so nice), Sig Four Star, and Goldberg Tiger.

Cheap, easy to assemble and flies great. Snap rolls like right now and in a hurry. Flies inverted as well as right side up. Pretty durable as well. Worst thing about this plane is its pretty ugly. Its a tail dragger. There is a guy at our field with a Saito 100 on it and it holds together. I keep waiting for it to break apart, but it just goes and goes.

Though Im on my 3rd plane, but in my future list I would like to keep warbirds like P51 Mustang of H9 as well as Spitfire, and apart from warbirds, I would love to fly Hangar 9's Pulse XT. It looks a really cool plane to me. It's in my future list.

My suggestion previously would have been either a Midstar or a Tiger2 which would both fit the bill nicely. Lately I have come to the conclusion that a Pulse XT from Hangar 9 is even better. :D

build yourself a SIG four star .40 from a kit, its easy to build but it doesnt look like a box with wings and you get the satisfaction of knowiung you built it all by yourselfs :P

Go with your first choice, nothing wrong with the SSE at all.
I stayed away from the 4* and Super Sportsters because everyone else had one, I went the Spacwalker and RV-4 route because no one else has one and both are fantastic flyers.
OH and by the way there is nothing wrong with trike gear either.

I just started flying the Hangar 9 Pulse xt. It was the 2nd plane for me, and I have to say that you will love it. It flies like it is on rails, and helped me build major confidence in my flying skills

+1. This is what I'm doing (going to do). If you are at all interested in building, this is a highly recommended way to go. SIG makes great kits (from what I hear) and the Four Star is no exception. Since you are building it, you can make it as unique as possible so there isn't a single one like it at the airfield. Plus, you get the pleasure of flying something you built with your own hands. Not only that, in the end the Four Star is a great second plane to boot.

The Great Planes Super Sportster 40 kit would be an excellent choice IMO.

The Great Planes Ultra Sport 40 kit would also be a fantastic 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th.... Plane as well. Both these Planes would serve you well for a long time!

I would recommend the Mid Star by Sig. I have both the 4-star and just finished the Mid Star and i must say it fly's incredible. Smooth, the best 2nd plane of all 40 size i have flown. Does all the fun stuff real well.

Oh Ya it can be a tail dragger-comes with the kit. Check out mine on my space. 52 4 stroke is ideal with a 12x6 prop.

If you like warbirds, AND a step up from a trainer, the Hanger 9 PTS Mustang ARF might fit the bill.

It really depends on what direction you want to go. Yes, all the skills are necessary BUT.... if you want to excell at one type of flying over others, you must get a plane that helps you develop those skills.

I like aerobatics, 3D and IMAC. I have no interest in warbirds, whatsoever. MY second plane recommendation would be far different from the same recommendation from a warbird enthusiast or a builder.

Find someone who is VERY good at the particular type of flying that you are interested in, and ask HIM/HER what you should get.

IMHO, you should get a H9 Ultra Stick .40. Fly about 20 gallons through it and get a Showtime .90, fly 20 more gallons and then go directly to GAS. That is the approximate route I took to aerobatics. I am still a beginner, but I have listened to some good advice...and I fly almost every day.

IF you want to learn 3D and aerobatics, you will benefit from foam. Get a Charger CR-1, in addition to the planes I listed, and fly it as often as possible.

IF you want to get into warbirds and scale flying, get a 4* and fly it as often as possible.

IF you want to sport-fly and don't care much for moving ahead, get a H-9 twist or a SIG Mayhem.

IF you just want to build, get a kit and start building.

IF you want to get into combat, build some SPADs and fly as often as possible.

IF you want to ....

(oh, and one word of advice, Listen ONLY to people whom you are absolutely sure CAN FLY. There is plenty of flying advice available from people who feel 'lucky' when they can take their plane home in one piece).

Well, fly it again, stuff it in, get another that he can fly with you but it'll be "yours"!!:D. You have any kind of direction on this stuff? Speed, Aerobatics, Warbirds,Jets?

Look into the Easy Sport .40. I had one of these and it was a great aerobatic plane. Its fast and fun, but has the characteristics of a trainer should you need it. You started with a high wing trainer, why not move to a mid wing.

Just my 2 cents, but what do I know.
