Motor / electrical problem??
 

Hi all,

Have a question with regards to my first plane which I am supposed to be taking out for her maiden today. I am configuring my radio up for it following all the instructions and everything seems fine except for the motor/throttle. The throttle does not respond for approx the first quater of stick travel, then it starts to in what appears to be a normal manner, until it gets to approx 2/3 throttle, then it just dies and will not respond again until I go back to zero throttle and work it back up again.

Any ideas?

Also, a servo question. The instructions for my radio goes through adjusting the servo bind using subtrim so that there is no clicking from the servos at max travel. The aileron servos (E-sky) on my plane seem to always click...they do stop, but practically at the point where there is hardly ANY travel in them at all.

The plane is a World Model Cessna Skylane which I bought completed. It is running a brushless outrunner of some sort though I can't tell what type as it is just black with no markings. 30A ESC and 11.1v lipo.

All help greatly appreciated (hope I get out today...the weather is just perfect!).

G'day Chris,
First off, servo travel is NOT set with subtrim, subtrim sets the centre point of the servo.
Endpoint or travel volumn, name of function, depending on radio brand, sets the servo travel at each end, of the servo's movement.
What radio do you have?

Sounds to me like the electronic speed control's low voltage cutout is kicking in. In order to prevent over-discharging lipo batterys, ESC's have a circuit that warns you of a low battery by shutting the motor off. Going to low power resets the LVC so you can still land under power.

Make sure the battery is fully charged. A low battery will trip the LVC at full throttle, that's the LVC doing its job, not a fault.

Thanks guys, throttle starting quarter way was due to me turning on with throttle not at zero...I was also turning on my ESC first.

Luckily there was some other guys down at the park who helped me out....the cutting out was due to the prop I was using being too big (I learnt all about them today)...the model had an 11x7 on it....a 10x4 one of the guys loaned me fixed things right up.

alan0899 I was in fact referring to endpoint but called it subtrim at the time :-p cheers

My maiden flight went well till the landing....I came in too slow and she stalled and banked to one side and smash! She's almost all glued back together again...I'm so keen to have another go...I love this sport!
