Mags

Lots of good reading out there to help in your info search. I would also recommend internet sites like spattothebone.com and spadworld as sources of other ways to approach the sport or hobby. Welcome and enjoy your journey

I think the best information you can find is right here on RCU. Theres tons of great guys/gals who really know there stuff and are always willing to help. I must have post like 100 questions and ive always gotten back really good answers that helped me make the right decisions. Just do some searches or search through this forum and youll find some stuff on trainer planes etc..

Oops sorry for saying the same thing the above person said i must have been typing while he posted. Anyways you get the picture RCU has tons of info.

This is a great forum. What is usually missing are good photos that are worth 1,000 posts. :)

As far as magazines go, it really depends on what you want to do. For example, Radio Control Modeler and Model Airplane news pretty much go with the trends which happens to be ARF's right now. If you want to build, then you'll get better info from Flying Models. If you want to build scale, most of the best mags are available at good book stores but are printed in England.

Also, it helps to join a club before you buy anything. Find someone who is willing to help you through the build and flying. If you try to get a lot of people to help you it will confuse you because you'll get a lot of different answers. While each person has a system that works for them, part of one persons system may not work with part of someone else's if that makes any sense.

Lastly, take a look at my web site. The Information for Modelers link has a lot of info on it including tools to buy, building tips, etc.

Hope all this helps and be sure to ask all your questions here. Everyone who started in this hobby was overwhelmed and confused by everything and there is a lot of experience here that can answer any of your questions.

Good luck. :)

Magazines...no, not Playboy!

Most everybody seems to be non-commital on this, but I'll venture an opinion. I like Radio Control Modeler the best. The articles are great, but I learn the most from the ads! Almost every R/C manufacturer puts an ad in there talking about their latest products! The mail-order companies compete for the lowest prices!

My second favorite is Model Airplane News. It also has a lot of good info. Good luck!

If you are planing on joining the AMA the magazine that you will receive is starting a from the ground up series of articles that takes the beginner and gives him knowledge of the basic in radios, engines, etc.
