Flaperons????

Was thinking of trying the flaperon option on my SIG Four Star 60.

Anyone have any advice about using the function?

It doesn't take much to slow this already slow landing airplane. You will need to mix or manually feed in down elevator, as the plane will tend to pitch up when flaperons are deployed. This plane really doesn't need it, but it is still fun to play around with.

Thanks for the help
The down elevator was what I was wondering about most. It will be fun to give it a go.

Ummmmm .... Flapperons in the down position will require up elevator. Flapperons in the up position(Spoilerons) will require down elevator. You want to have fun with them? Put them on a 3 position switch. Just as you enter a loop, hit the switch up (spoilers) and see just how tight it will do it. Or, put them on a pot (depends on your radio) and dial in some flap for takeoff. About 25% will have you off the ground in half the distance than without them. Got a short runway? Put them at about 75% down and slow almost to a stop. Just remember that the more you have them deployed, the less effective the ailerons are.

Interesting... I have a Futaba 6EX-2.4 GHz radio. I like having the ability to dial in a real short landing, just going to have to be mighty careful as I feel this stuff out :D

flaperons down will make this airplane balloon up requiring down elevator. The 4 Star 60 was my second airplane. Built from a kit I made a noob mistake and had the ailerons adjusted wrong. had them adjusted so that the top of the aileron followed the top of the wing, perhaps a droop of 4 or 5 degrees? airplane handled horribly, that was my instructors words
be careful

Sorry but wrong, flaperons down create more lift so down elevator will be required to compensate, spoilers create less lift so require up elevator to compensate.

On the four star and most other planes, this is a correct statement. However, I have found one or two planes where up elevator is required. Weird. It must be a balance or thrust line thing. One example of this is the Typoon 3d. Don't ask me why.

RE: Flaperons????

I put flaperons on my 4*60 just for fun. You really don't need to do it for landing, the plane goes really, really slow anyways. I do want to try to hoover it horizontaly one of these days in a stiff breeze just to see if I can. For takeoff, now that is neat!

I have a OS .70 Surpass on mine. Normal take off roll is about 10-15 feet with 1/2 throttle. When I put the flaps down the plane takes off in about 4-5 feet.

I have an Evolution 61 on my 4* 60 . It is very reliable but not extremely powerful. Good for me at this point in my learning curve
