Servos problems
 

I just got a new radio The Airtronics RD6000 Super and I charged the batterys and hook every thing outside the plane before I installed it and the servo start twitching when I turn on the Tx. I don;t understand what the problem is. Can anyone shed some light on this subject.

You may be "Swamping". This happens when the signal is too strong.

Try carrying the Tx across the room.

Hello Chris. It sounds like you had the servos hooked up first then turned on the TX. the servos are twitching because they couldn't lock into anything. You should always turn on the TX first then the RX and vice versa when turning them off. RX then the TX. that should fix your problem.

I will try that. I have one more question can you charge both the Tx battery and the Rx battery at the same time on the charger that came with the radio? And will it make the battery charge slower?

You can safely charge both batteries at the same time with no reduction in charge time. The rating you see on the sticker will always be met since the small voltages and low amperage rates are nowhere near the capacity of a home electrical circuit.

Hello Topher. If you have a charger that has both the TX and RX connectors on it you can charge them both. No problem at all.

Have you selected PPM on your MOD menu? Or are you running PCM?

Its set to PCM but I have no idea of what it needs to be in. Any ideas?

do you have a PCM reciever or PPM?

if its a PPM/single conversion reciever then you need to set your TX to PPM

Its the Airtronics 92777/72 FM Blue Rx Dual Conversion Narrow band. I don't know if its a PCM or not. Sorry this radio stuff is confusing.

ive had a looka t that reciever but it does not say if it is PCM or PPM, but i would think if its a dual conversion it is likely to be a PCM

try your transmitter on PPM just to be sure ;)

Dual conversion or single conversion has absolutely nothing to do with weither it is PPM or PCM.
And FM is another term for PPM so your RX is PPM not PCM.
Set your radio for PPM and your twitching will stop if there are no other issues.

I had the same thing happen with my Fut 9C. It's a PCM transmitter, but all my receivers are PPM. With an 18 plane memory, every time I add another plane, I have to remember to switch to PPM in the MOD menu. Several times I have scrathced my head while all the servos go wild. No expereince with Airtronics, but sounds like you guys above have the problem solved.

If the transmitter was right next to the receiver while doing this check then you over powered the receiver. walk a few feet away antenna down and see if this twitching stops.

Alright I walked away from the receiver the twitching stop but I still have no control of the servos so I am just out of range. I have the Tx set to PPM and the batterys are fully charged. I tried to call Airtronics but got no answerso you guys are all I got, So whats next on the list.

Wow, not being there to look at it makes it tough to diagnose.
My Futaba has to be turned off then back on when switching from PCM to PPM, not sure about the airtronics,try that.
Have you got your reciever antena stretched out?(receiver)
Crystal fully seated?
Is your battery plugged right into your receiver or through a switch? Try plugging directly into your receiver.

ok check list time
1 antenna for receiver stretched out
2 battery hooked up to receiver and if through a switch, switch on, battery still charged?
3 chrystal in reciever? and the same freq as the transmitter?
4 transmitter still on and charged?
5 if its not any of these things try a new receiver oh check your connections

To which I would add...

3.5 Shift pattern set identically in TX and RX.
3.6 Modulation set identically TX and RX, e.g. PPM on both?
3.7 Crystal on RX fully seated, and ideally made by Aitronics?

Ummm... is the RX the same channel as the TX? ( as in - is the RX channel 42 (for instance) and the TX channel 42 also? )

I am have tried everything so now I guess I am going to try new crystals and then a new receiver. I am going to take to the LHS and see if they will help me get it solved so I don't have to buy stuff thats not going to work. Thank you guys so much for all the help and if there is something else that has not been tried let me know. I will let you guys know what they say this afternoon at the LHS.

Boy,I hate to hear of you having problems whth the Airtronics system as I have just recieved a VG6000 for my second system.[:o]I wanted something compatable with my JR system is the reason I picked airtronics.

Don't fret over that. It will probably turn out to be something simple.. well, we can all hope.

Regarding the Airtronics systems, well, I have an RD-6000 and an RD-8000 and love them. They have given me great service even through my abuse of the TX's.

I have a Spektrum DX7 also which gets most of the use lately, but for crystalized RX's, I still stick with my Airtronics (now mostly used on my electric powered planes).

I know how to reverse the direction but not the shift. Is that hard to do?

nevermind I see where it says PPR. That did not work either.
