question on servos for a u-can do
Ok, I'm thinking about picking up a u-can-do 60 to replace the plane I thrashed yesterday trying an outside loop :(. And yes, I have been flying for a good while etc. etc., and have been on the stick of a U-can-do before :D.(that way noone has to type up the long standard response, I ask here because this plane is suitable for newer pilots and the questions can't hurt :D)
My question is this. It calls for one standard high torque on the rudder and two each standard BB on the elevator and ailerons.... Will s3004's work for the elevator and rudder? IT is rated as well as the s3001's the Tower reviews used on the tail, but not quite as tough as the s9001 core-less's used on the ailerons. I also have a CS-70 wich will put out 109 on the rudder at 4.8v. Will the s3004's and the cs-70 work for this aircraft? I will be running my ST .75 on it, and am not capable of 3-d flying yet, so thats not that big of worry :D. I'm mainly interested in doing basic stall turns, loops,immelmans, outside loops, rolls, maybe tryin to learn high altitude to hover or do a knife edge. I can, if necessary go to 6v wich would bump me up to 56oz on the 3004's and 134oz. on the cs-70 |

The TS70 should be fine on the rudder. I run a DS821 at 70oz on the rudder of my 2 meter pattern plane and will pull a knife edge loop. I also use the same DS 821 servo on all my control surfaces and it works very well. Only lacking in the snap roll where it winds up a bit before the snap. I run them at 4.8 volts and the plane flies very well. If you are going to fly with 3d throws you might want to think about something like the TS 70 all around. With the 7Lb weight of the U-can it most likely won't see unlimited vertical with less than a .91 and hovering may even require a little more engine. Also as this plane is a 3d plane it has very large control surfaces and for the basic aerobatics you will want to tone the throws down to 12 degrees of throw or less on the elevator and aileron, Rudder you can use as much as you can get. This will make the plane a little more forgiving as you are learning these maneuvers. |

Those servos will work. A bit mugh on the rudder, but it's better to have more than you need than to need more than you have. I have digitals on my ailerons, ans FP s148's on the rudder and elevators and have had no problems. The ST 75 will hover with a 13X4W prop, but you'll have to go into a HAKE or go inverted to get out of it, or if you're high enough, a hammerhead looks cool. If you're just going to fly like a slow sport plane, that engine will do just fine. I had one on mine for a long time, then put an ASP 1.08 on it. I would highly suggest dual rates for takeoff and landing. Set your ailerons for about 3 1/2" and dial the dual rate down to about 25%. I got about 2 3/4" out of the elevator and set the dual rate to 30%. If you're going to use flapperons, you'll need a little more on the aileron dual rate. The thing flies slow enough that most of the torque on the servos is just moving the control surfaces.

Hi! I have JR 591's on all surfaces except rudder, where i have a futaba 3305. All had been good for the last 3 years.
One word of advice, seal the covering edges with nail varnish, all my covering has started to come off the airframe, especially the chequered underside. Cheers W PS: I have an OS 91fx in this plane and hovers about half throttle. |

Thanks guys, tells me what I need. Im trying to get by without buying any new servos....
Would it be worth my time to throw the other to cs70's on the ailerons? |
