This is the thread in question:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6202588/tm.htm

Most of the product sold by Nitro Planes is CMP China Model Products.

The Product line seems to range from some pretty good airplanes to a few that are only just adaquate.

In my opinion If you are capable of assembling an ARF without a manual and making your own decisions on CG and throws as well as how to do functional linkages then great. But if not then it may be better to choose something else.

I have flown most of the various warbird CMP's and assembled a number of them. I have not flown any of the various trainer or sport type CMP's so cannot comment on them.

IMO, regardless of the brand of products they sell (i have purchased cmp and am happy with it) nitroplanes IS a good place to buy from. And before anybody says i am affiliated, I AM NOT.

I purchased a plane, got the plane fast and in perfect condition. I called to ask a couple of questions and always got a good answer.

That's my experience purchasing from them.

Do a search for nitroplanes. There is a lot of discussion and opinion.

I am one of the guys that posted about poor customer service and I still stand by that. The planes are very nice looking and built well in the opinion of builders from my club that have been in this game for 40yrs+. The one piece of advice they just gave me was buy the planes and replace the hardware and rods. The directions are not good either so don’t trust them 100%. You need to make building judgment calls that might take some skill beyond yours. Do you know a builder or club in your area that can assist you? Lastly, I have the Low wing trainer from Nitromodels and it is real well made but the directions suck. I being a newbie was disappointed. Now I know what to expect next time I buy from them. And yes I will buy from them again the prices are half that of the other companies. Realize that the reason the prices are so cheap is because the directions suck. To have directions documented professionally and flawlessly it costs a fortune. That is why other company’s planes are twice as much! By the way these words are not my conclusions. They are from my R/C club guys (the Prop Masters) that have a lot more time in than me…

I've tried for a week to get someone to answer the phones at nitroplanes and no one does. I would say there support sucks.

I must agree the customer service sucks really bad. I have tried to call them for the past month and no answers the phone, nor replies to their emails. What kind of clown operation do they? they have a piss poor one. That's my opinion though.

They have a customer support forum here on RCU and seem to support it to varying degrees.
Much better to ask questions of them there than to whine here IMO.

You can't please everyone. I read threads here on RCU where people complain about Tower's slow next day shipping too. Give me a break.

It is supposed that Nitroplanes has aquired a lot of Sig Senoritas that were supposed to have gone to the Sig factory. Sig is not pleased about it.

I have assembled a number of there ARFs for people. Pretty much everything John said is true. If something is missing or broken then customer service Has been very bad!! I haven't tried the on line service at RCU.

If it's your first airplane, I'd say stay away. They are basically a warehouse vendor for cheap stuff. They sell it and forget about it. That's fine if you have the experience to fix a few things and have a collection of hardware to replace the stuff you don't like. If you're new, you'll likely spend the same money and more time on a Nitroplanes model as you would a Hangar 9 or Great Planes one. I've owned one Nitroplanes model, their Ryan PT-20. It looked ok from 20 feet away but it was heavy in flight.

I'm waiting for my first ever plane to arrive. A Sky Trainer (Cessna look alike). I like the price. They (Nitroplanes support) do reply to questions, very short and curt, but an answer nevertheless!
Let's see! I'll be happy if everything 's in the box, that's all.Oh.and that everything works, too. I have a friend here who is an expert on electrics, and he will guide me through this first assembling and flying experience.
I actually bought a Sig Rascal 40 first, but after watching my instructor flying it, trying myself, and observing other members in the club in Houston, TX., I decided glow type palnes were a bit too loud, heavy and complicated for me. The Rascal is for now sale (locally only)!

i got a nitro planes yak recently. it is a nice plane but horrible manual. quite a few modifications to get it in flying condition. if it is your first build i would stay away from nitroplanes.com. like i said it flies great but a little bit of a chore to build.

I got a plane from Hobby King in early December. It was missing the tail peices and the cover for the battery and radio.  I wrote to them every week and a week ago I finally got a reply to send pictures... so I have sent 2 different sets so far last week and today I got an email that the guy in China can't make a decision and it's been sent up to management.  I don't know what kind of crap this is but I'm going to have a hard time deciding to buy from them again.

In the mean time the plane just sits,,, waiting, all assembled, checked out the electronics and it's ARF except for the missing parts.. I'm flying today and had hoped they would have made me whole befor this, our first good day since Thanksgiving...

I'm not sure what plane you bought but would it be possible to make the missing parts out of balsa?

RE: nitroplanes.com

The planes are pretty good for the price, have a pair of Sig Seniorita's & a Piper L-4. As mentioned above, the instructions on the L-4 were pretty bad so if you are not comfortable in figuring things out & doing workarounds, except for the Seniorita which is the SIG plane, pass them by. Additionally customer service is a major customer disservice.

Best access for any kind of problem is on the customer help forum here, forget trying phone or email.
