New to planes
I'm thinking of getting a plane, but I have never flown one before. Whats the best way to learn how to fly, would it be to join a club and ask someone to teach me. If so how would I go about finding one. I figure this would be the best way to learn because teaching yourself would be a rather expensive:)

RE: New to planes
Yes definatly find a club. You can check at your local hobby shop. Also you can do a search at the AMA website.
Best of luck. Del |
RE: New to planes
A club is a great way to learn. Another way is to buy a flight simulator, such as the Great Planes Real Flight Sim. You will still need a club to help you, but the repair costs to a trainer would go down!

RE: New to planes
Well, I agree with the posters here and with you to find a club ofcourse learning by yourself is gonna be little expensive as well as dangerous. I'm not in USA, but I know in order to join a club you need to be also member of AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics). Plus Simulators are the best softwares on your computer to teach you how the plane reacts over a small push of your finger on gimbals/stick. Also there is a website where you can download a free flight simulator which is FMS and website is
http://www.rc-sim.de , here you can download FMS 2.85V for free also the planes, and once it's installed you have to caliberate the controls of your radio, like throttle, rudder, aileron and elevator settings. I hope you would find it good in the first place to fly planes on it. Wish you good luck and Welcome to the Addicition ERK419:D Mody |
RE: New to planes
There is a club right in your area that participates in the AMA's Intro Pilot program, ERK419:
LARKS RODNEY METZ 123 W AUGLAIZE ST WAPAKONETA OH 45895-1533 Phone: (419) 738-2007 [link=http://www.larksclub.homestead.com/]LARKS website[/link] |
RE: New to planes
go to your local club and ask around, see what type of models they are flying and find yourself an instructor, then ask him what plane to get (no point turning up with a big alloy CP helicopter if they are flying gliders)
it may also be advisable to get a good simulator (as mentioned above) and maybe a buddy lead, although its perfectly possible to learn without either (i did) |
