Field box battery

Why dont people use a small car battery in their field box? There are some very small ones available these day. Keep a trickler on it and it would never die.

I use a tractor battery, which is very similar. Tractor batteries are inexpensive - less than $30.

I got one from batteries plus. same size and weight as the one in the box before, but more cranking amps. think it was for a lawn tractor or motorcycle or something. seems like i can go months without putting a charge on it and it is still strong.

troposcuba,

Is that a closed gel battery and if so what did you pay for it if you don't mind me asking? Mine is old and doesn't take a charge well anymore. Plus I only fly planes with large engines and need the cranking amps.

get a moto guzzi or harley battery, those bikes suck the amps when cranking.

Yeah, i believe so... there is no where to add water, so i assume it is sealed gel cell type. not sure really. i just brought the old H9 batt. out of the flight box with me and asked if they had anything similar. don't remember what i paid, but i did compare the price to the H9 batt. and it seemed reasonable at the time.

I ordered 2 of these for about the same money as one from tower hobbies, they look the same to me.

I use a lawn mower battery. $19 at Wal-mart. Plenty of juice at the field and I recharge about once a month.

I use a couple of those for my feild boxes. 7.2 amps and will start most 1.00 and down. But hook a starter to my 900 amp jump pack and you can start a lot bigger engines.

I use a lawn mower battery, also. About $20 at Interstate Batteries. It's a wet cell type, so I have to make sure the water level is OK, but I keep it on an auto charger, so very little is ever needed and it's always ready to go.

I had a Moto Guzzi for a while and I used garden tractor batteries in it because it was about the same size and a fraction of the price of the motorcyle specific battery.
