goldberg tiger, to taildragger
like the tiger , but can it be converted to a tail dragger?
thanks dan |
Sure
Tiger 1 or 2's convert nicely and can make well mannnered conventional gear airplanes.
I have an enlarged Tiger 2, eighty inch wing at 12 pounds with an ASP 1.08 that works nicely as a taildragger. And the standard size Tigers do well also. John :) |

It will be a great taildragger, the gear is very wide stanced so it will be the most stable thing on the ground. I assume you have not built it yet because you will have to move the landing gear plates forward to the other side of the spar. Try to line up the front part of your wheels almost even with the leading edge of the wing, that is an approximate location and should give you good results. Good luck!

ya it works great.
i have a tiger 2 with an os 46, it is a great taildragger. dont move the gear mount plates, leave it all stock, saving you some re-engineering. it would look funny with near vertical gear legs anyway. just bend up some 5/32 wire so it bends forward. make it long enough to clear the biggest prop you use. Then just setup a castoring tailwheel and make sure you have a powerful rudder so it works for x-winds. now you can pivot on a wheel and you dont have to deal with the crappy nosewheel. |

Or........Goldberg sells (or used to sell, not sure if they still do) a "Klett" landing gear that bolts to the bottom of the fuselage. The Tiger 2 ARF already has the hardwood block there for it. Just another option.....

I built my Tiger2 as a taildragger with aluminum gear on the fuse and a standard tailwheel on the back. Handled great!
