Re-gluing old CA
Anyone had to re-glue old CA joints? Having a little trouble.
I am in the process of rehab'ing my trainer that I built about 15 years ago. After removing the Monokote from the wings and body I found the wings to be in fairly good shape, but several of the joints in the body came apart as I peeled back the covering. Granted, the glue job was probably not the best in the first place, but I also crashed it around a bit when I was flying it. So I tried just applying more CA and it seems to stick if I clamp it or hold it a bit, but I am not sure how strong the new joint is. Any advice? I have considered epoxy, but I want to avoid adding too much extra weight. Thanks all. Jon P.S. I've been following the forum for a month or so while I try to ease back into the hobby. Great content. There are a lot of knowledgeable folks out there willing to help. Thanks! |
Re-gluing old CA
I would try medium ca,then after it dries go over the same glue joint with thick ca for a fillet effect.

Don't try thin CA, it won't work. I would use a little medium CA and a shot of accelerator. That should be fine.

Ditto what Minnflyer states above. Should work fine...

Thanks all. Worked like a champ. My trainer is starting to shape up. Next is control surfaces and radio install (I had pulled the radio out to use in a glider) Thanks again for the help.
